Tuning/tweaking a TeeDee 09
Hi guys, Inspired by how much I enjoyed building my profile scale speed model (Yet to be flown). I am now looking at building a Weatherman vintage C/L speed model. I will make it so so the engine choice can be interchangable, and I can checkout different engines. What I would like to know is, as I have one and it will be my starting point. Can I do anything to tune up my trusty TD 09?
Cheers Mike

Re: Tuning/tweaking a TeeDee 09
The TD .09 is a pretty good engine in stock form I'm sure we would all agree.
I have one and have used it in Free Flight. I opened up the venturi and cleaned up and stramlined the intake passage in the crankshaft. I never messed with anything else but I'm sure some will have.
Because of the large venturi hole it needed to run in pressure. I could have used a pen bladder or similar, but decided to drill a 1/16th hole in a mounting lug into the inside of the crankcase, cyano a 1/16th tube into it and another tube 1/16th ID over the top of it to take a tube to a hard tank for pressure. A feed tube to the carb. and another for flood off to stop it when required.
I mix my own fuel and it runs well and fast on 25% methanol, 25% castor, 50% nitro. Two head gaskets and seldom blow a head. 7X3 prop. for FF use. Hope that helps.
