Christmas 1971
It was the night before Christmas, and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
I anxiously waited for that day to get here,
to get that Cox airplane in air oh so clear.
To get that dizzy feeling that I really crave,
to fly it around, oh how I would be so brave.
To it fly around near the speed of light,
How it would make me smile, with such great delight.
That smell of nitro would cling in the air,
all over my hands and all over my hair.
Then out the window I heard such a clatter,
I dropped my remote to see what was the matter.
It was that fat man from up north of Washington state,
Would he have goodies for me? That would really be great!
I screamed with delight, as I shouted with glee,
a brand new Cox airplane, all just for me.
Now I'm so happy, and ready for flight.
to all a good Christmas, and all a good night.

Wishing all a safe and wonderful holiday season.
Joe

Merry Christmas Joe. Was this inspired by your own boyhood longing?

I used my birthday and paper route money to get my first PT-19.

I think I also got my PT-19 with birthday funds about the same year, and spent all my paper route money on my first 'big' plane...a Ringmaster Jr. with a Fox .15!

The Box Art above will ALWAYS be my favorite "Airplane Picture" as it decorated the box that held my first successful "Gas-Powered" model airplane.  My Mom used her limited funds to get it for me, under direction of my Uncle Wayne, making it the "Third Time Charm" following two other less-than-successful forays into the world of control line flying.

Subsequent maintenance and additions to my burgeoning Air Force were provided by my association with "Grit--America's Family Newspaper"...based in the magical land of Williamsport, Pa.

I nearly shelled out 40 bucks on Ebay for this brand-new paper bag, but seem to enjoy the nostalgia just fine with the photos!  My Aunt Bert would sew the front opening closed to keep me from unintentionally "distributing" them as I rode my Schwinn Stingray on my Saturday morning route.
