Re: WTB: TeeDee Aluminum Carb Body
Captn Pedant to the rescue.....!
In point of fact the Cox engine differs from the compression ignition
engine in as much as it ain't compression that keeps em running
(as in one of Rudy Diesels contraptions) it's the catalytic reaction
between the Methanol in the fuel and the Platinum in the glow coil.
I invite each and every one of you to stick that up your Venturi
and smoke it.

If I'm not mistaken I believe the point was to show that one of the meanings of ignite is to make something glow:SuperDave wrote:Ron: And your point being?

"2. To subject to great heat, especially to make luminous by heat."
Hence the term "glow plug igniter".

As I explained to Ron I do not wish to parse and respectfully decline the opportunity.
(It's off-topic anyway)

Re: WTB: TeeDee Aluminum Carb Body
I would just like to make one last point.
Carburetor (n) : a mechanical apparatus for premixing vaporized fuel and air in proper proportions and supplying the mixture to an internal combustion engine
That's the Webster definition. Nowhere does it say it has I have a throttle plate.
The Venturi is part of said carb. The rest of the parts being the needle and valve body. If you remove the butterfly valve from a carburetor on a vehicle, will it still run? Yes. Just wide open. It's still a carburetor. Just a different design.

Re: WTB: TeeDee Aluminum Carb Body
Thanks for clearing that up, Stang. Hopefully that's the last word on the subject.
Sorry your simple thread became the grounds for such a petty semantic skirmish. Most of us around here are pretty laid back. Please don't let that deter you from jumping into the discussions.
See you in the funny pages,
Rusty

Re: WTB: TeeDee Aluminum Carb Body
I still call it an intake, just like on any other engineSuperDave wrote:"Dave, in the Cox instruction sheet it is called a carb body. Does it make sense? No, but it is what it is." - Ron
A carburetor contains an adjustable throttle plate veneuri does not ergo Cox is NOT "lying" but using misleading term.
A venturi is a place where the volocity of intake air is accelerated to draw in additional fuel. In essense this means that a venturi is only one part of a carburertor and NOT the reciprocal.

Not so fast,
Object to your "petty semantic skimish" label because words have meanings and the more precisely they are expressed the clearer the they are understood. Example: race and ethnicity
9 which is the source of considerable controversy today in America.)
Examine any socialogical source you wish and explain the differece. Confusion yields controvery and precision of expression yields understanding if not acceptance
(If you don't like"throttle plate" try "butterfly" which the slang equivilant. All true carbuetors have them don't they?

Dave... too many big words makes my brain shut down
Cox called it a Carb Body... so be it... If you don't like it, take it up with Roy Cox

Yes Travis suh.
I hope you enjoy "igniting" your glow plugs. (Best to have a fire extinguisher handy)
