Nice choice Lieven! Years back I built a rubber powered peanut scale Caudron that flew quite well.

re: the OP title
Excuse me please.
Being unfamilar with the erm "smack talk" I referenced it. Seems it's related to verbal bullying as found on blogs etc. Is that the sort of thing you'd like to see on the forum?
If so it's good way to kill it.

Shall I just change the title? I meant to inject some lighthearted humor, and was greeted with some early in the thread.SuperDave wrote:re: the OP title

Your call Phil
Now that I understand the meaning of smack talk" such as in a locker room it tends to become disrespectfull if not abusive. One of the best attributes of CECF is the respect and courtesy which we accord each other.
I KNOW Admin and the mods appreciate that.

SD-"Smack Talk" with our group of guys is really not the same thing as being in the football locker room and is not anything like "bullying". I almost hate how people (not you) use the word "bullying" anymore. Smack talk here is more like "my paint job is faster than yours".

Duke:
Once a standard starts to degrade it goes rapidly downhill is MY experience and I believe there are far too many examples in modern life. (Watch or read the daily news)
Although the "smack talk" reference here was probably well intended it's continuation could invite a decent unbecoming the forum. Call my a "old crumugeon" if you wish but
I've with the forum for a considerable length of time and witnessed lapses in forum decorum at times. The the credit of the membership lapses where quickly "squished". (During those lapses I is when acquired my negative vote and I understand why.)
So there is a place for proprity here and I believe it appropriate.

Re: CEF speed contest Design Discussions
I understand where you're coming from, I was just trying to put in context. This is by far the best forum out there. And the people and the way we treat each other is the reason why. Basically, I'm trying to say it was just a post title, no real smack talk here. Only "Nice plane", "That looks great!".

Re: CEF speed contest Design Discussions
Can we just start a "semantics, word usage, and accurate meaning of technical terms" thread in the Off Topic section? Perhaps this will put an end to the persistent hijacking of threads that are meant to be light hearted discussions about cox engines and model airplanes. That way anyone who wants to bicker over a language that is constantly changing and evolving and where words have several meanings that are also constantly changing will have a place to discuss such topics in depth. A great way to jump start THAT discussion would be with the reading of "The Unfolding of Language: An Evolutionary Tour of Mankinds Greatest Invention" by Guy Deutscher. I suggest skipping the section pertaining to to sentence structure and the conjugation if verbs in the Arabic languages, it will make your head hurt.
All right, let's talk model airplanes.

When is this whole shindig down? I can't remember and I'm too lazy to do a search.

Photographs of finished, flight ready models must be posted by Monday March 31st 2014 in order to qualify.
Competitors will have until Friday April 18th 2014 to submit flight times, video of the flight is strongly recommended. Models will be flown by the builder.

Photos of completed models posted by March 31, you have until April 18 to post an official flight. Depending on participation I may look to get prizes donated. That would be contingent on everyone involved having a YouTube account and finding three outside judges who don't mind spending an afternoon timing videos of little planes going in circles.Cribbs74 wrote:Jim,

Nice! Good to see a biplane, and a Pitts no less. I was lucky enough to tour the Pitts factory in Afton Wyoming back in the 80's.duke.johnson wrote:Alright, you guys are having to much fun. So, I found my knife and cut this out this evening.

He started with a solid block of balsa and whittled away anything that didn't look like an airplane.RknRusty wrote:A knife? Damn, Duke you're quite a whittler.

Re: CEF speed contest Design Discussions
I don't know about being on the ball, I was just feeling shamed seeing all the other pictures. Now that shame moves to someone else. I thought I posted another plane I started last night before I cleaned up. Here's the start of the P-40.RknRusty wrote:Man, you guys are on the ball. I'm way still in the concept stage right now.
Jim- The Pitts will be to short. I cut the fuse longer and it looked bad, so I scaled the fuse back down to match the wings. It looks way better this way. I'm going to put a Pee Wee 020 on it. The P-40 might be my contest plane. I'm going to cut out that RC Gee Bee that Ron and I liked for fun, also. Maybe tonight, we have to go bowling today, little son has league and he and I have to practice for the Turkey Day bowling tournament. Then with any luck, find a fishing hole full of salmon. See ya guys tonight.

Re: CEF speed contest Design Discussions
Duke,
That GeeBee would make an excellent .15 sized full fuse scale racer.
If I didn't have so many projects I would do one myself
