It may be obvious, but the carb body alignment on the crankcase on Tee Dees is important for best fuel suction timing. When viewed from the prop side, the axis of the venturi should align with the axis of the cylinder. Although the plastic carb body has a positioning shoulder, especially with aftermarket bodies (Mecoa etc.) the fit may be a bit snug so when the collet is tightened it may drag the body a few degrees off the alignment at the cost of a few hundreds of rpm lost.

Solution: if misaligment is observed, release the collet by turning it counter clockwise (viewed from the prop end) with the toothed semicircle opening on your COX wrench, align the carb body, and while keeping it in position with one hand, tighten the collet with the wrench.

I noted this today and after realignment of the carb body the engine revved up to its max and the erratic run was gone.

Yes, good advice. I noticed the aftermarket aluminum carb bodies were not molded to lock in place. I only have one and had to take care to make sure it was aligned. I made a scratch on the carb and crankcase as an index point to align while tightening.

I have one of those aluminum intakes, the white gasket distorted.  I ended up using a .09 head gasket, although I have yet to try it.
