Re: Gentlemen, start your engines!!!!
Well, OK....After Ron's assault on my Model Airplane Machismo...I know, a somewhat contradictory term...I decided to brave certain death from lightning strikes, and bolted War Dog to a slightly more water-proof airframe, then launched into the first flight of Ron's Year-Long, Castor Oil Odyssey !!!!
Four flights logged...four doses of lonely, high-pitched cadence challenging the distant rumblings of thunder.
Flight times once I can think long enough to add them !!!!

Yeah, that's what I was wondering too, how a PT-19 gets into a position like that. On the back end of an outside loop!?!? Impressive.cribbs74 wrote:And it begins! What in the world is going on in the last pic?

I'm all packed up and ready to go in the morning before the winds kick up. I'm taking three planes, both Baby Streaks, BFS-I being the Cox contest entrant, BFS-II for Chris to fly, and the Shoestring for further trimming. My next door neighbor Chris is going to be my pit man and stopwatch operator.

Now you're cooking with gas. I wish I had a pit guy close, or better yet a flying buddy.

I'm jealous Kim. I wanted to fly so badly today. Great weather and no wind. But I was able to watch my little girl graduate high school today, with honors and she gave a beautiful valedictorian speech. Heck I don't know if I spelled everything right. It even brought tears to this old grumps eyes. Now we hope to fly after church. I'll try to put he engine back together tonight.

Re: Gentlemen, start your engines!!!!
I was able to burn some fuel today, in the .051, on the "Stik" plane. The guys at the field showed me how to make the Tx function as a stopwatch. So now, I start the engine, launch the plane, and hit a button - and the time runs until I hit the button again, when the engine dies. That's a sweet function. Some of them use it as a count-down timer, to regulate their electric airplane's battery life, on each flight.
It was windy today, but Sunday will be a little better, they say. I'll try flying some more, then.
Good luck to everyone!
And one more thing...Is it possible to enter a different engine in the C/L category? Or, could one use the same engine in both disciplines, and count it as separate times? I don't know, that's kind of clouding the issue. Just wondering.

You guys kill me.....
Use the same engine in both disciplines. Remember there are separate classes so if you want to win one or both you need to concentrate your efforts.

That's great! I hope we get out today. I need to bench run the engine I put together last night first. Nice picture!

Re: Gentlemen, start your engines!!!!
You just had to show Kim up eh Rusty? Good job! I am totally jealous. I am still away from my home and my "Honey Do" list keeps growing.
Kim get's the "nads" award for flying in a storm though. You can take a wild guess as to what the trophy will be.

Re: Gentlemen, start your engines!!!!
Kim-I love your Title "Cox Castor Oil Odyssey" We should use that. At least I would like to use it, anyways.
Ron- Here's the pictures of my engine and starter plane.
And the Report! The weather was great day! Mostly sunny and light wind. Engine needs tuned up though. I built a new one last night but couldn't get it to start today, So I went with the Black Widow that was on the Baby Ringmaster. It's a old one, but it seems to start every time. I'll try to stop all the air and fuel leaks tonight. Hope the rest of 'Team Johnson' can get their engines running soon.
