Cox Engine of The Month
Manx Cat IV

Manx Cat IV
Hey guys,
I was about to order a Super Clown kit until I came across a company that offers a Manx Cat short kit. No way I can pass it up. Hopefully in the next few days it will be payed for and on its way to me. But I am curious, does anyone here have any experience with one?
I currently have three engine options. An OS 25 SF converted to diesel. Very similar to TT Pro. TT, maybe an OS clone? An Enya 35 5224. Or a 50's Fox 35 that was hand fitted by the Duke. I will probably choose the engine depending on balance. Nose heaviness will most likely be the problem. In which case the Fox would be best.

Re: Manx Cat IV
I may do a build thread on this one. Not sure. I started one once and it did not even recieve a reply. So I tend to shy away from build threads. I am still waiting for the reply from Build Right Fly Right. I am thinking about having red wings and a black fuse. Should look nice.

Well, please do a build thread if possible. I will surely comment as will the other Control Liners on here. Right guys?
Keep in mind that a lot of people just like to read and not reply. You may be helping someone without even knowing it. That's the way I think about it anyway.
Hope it comes soon!

Re: Manx Cat IV
I can post some pictures of the build. There are only two other examples of this plane on the net. One on Stunt Hanger and the other is the kit manufacture. I guess mine will be third. Hopefully I do not fall after the first flight! I can handle a foam combat wing but I do not know about a wooden biplane...
I am now beginning to lean more towards a diesel engine instead of glow. I can turn a larger prop which will slow it down some but pull hard through maneuvers. I can also fly up to five minutes on two ounces. And there is that beautiful smell....
I will need a small Veco crank according to the plans. Anyone know where I can get one?
Also, I would like to get a non-clunked 3 oz tank so I do not have to swap one tank between glow and diesel. I only have one metal tank. The rest are clunk and I do not really like them. Anyone have one to sell? I would, personally, rather buy a used one.

Re: Manx Cat IV
Measure the length of the bell crank hole to hole and then select something that is available...or cut your own.
I would go with a 3 inch

I see,
Yeah, go modern on the bellcrank. Chances are it was an aluminum one which over time your leadouts will saw through. Do what Phil says and measure it out and buy a nylon one.
If you can't afford a new one let me know.

Re: Manx Cat IV
I actually have a Sig 3" bellcrank. It is an old one still in the package. I worry about how that will affect the throws though. It is most likely larger than the Veco small crank.

Re: Manx Cat IV
You could always drill another hole closer to the pivot or just use the innermost one.

Re: Manx Cat IV
I checked out the crank and the two inner holes are much further in than I remembered. I think it will work fine.
I got a reply from Built Right Fly Right. The email I recieved was from his wife. The owner (Walter) is in the hospital. She said they would get back with me when he gets out in a few days.
I hope all is okay with him.
