Glow engines skip firing strokes Travis.
When they're rich they do it more hence
4 stroke rather than 2. This is referred to
In OS manuals in the running in section iirc.
This skipping is best seen when using a tachometer.
When the revs bounce around it's because
It's missing it's firing and in effect stuttering
Not as is commonly misthought dodgy
Tacho's.

Just another cool sounding name we invented, like calling a methanol powered engine a "nitro" engine. Kevbo has about the best explanation for what's happening so far.cribbs74 wrote:As I understand it a 4-2-4 means it runs rich during level flight (4) leans out when the nose of the plane goes up (2) goes back to normal in level flight (4) i never understood why it's often referred to as 2-4-2. It's basically the sound the engine makes. Rich lean rich etc.

As a "snooty" paralell, fly fishermen call a spit-shot a "depth accelerator", a bobber a "strike indicator" and a life jacket a "personal floation device" (or PFD).
I know because I am one.

I was referring to saying 2-4-2 as opposed to 4-2-4 unless folks use to VOG from launch.
Usually you go from level flight to a chosen stunt. So I think 4-2-4 is more accurate as to what is actually taking place. Tomato Tomaaaahto I suppose.
