Re: RknRusty!! Got presents!
I got that scroll saw. Also a set of SAE and metric T-handle ball end hex drivers, and an Oneida food scale. I love the saw, it came with a medium and a fine blade. The medium cuts 1/8" balsa nicely. I didn't try 1/16" but I expect it'll work fine. It cut some 3/8" birch ply really cleanly, but I had to turn the speed all the way up. It also cut the foamboard I'm making the Kitty Cat plane with really cleanly too. Nice curves. So this Spring I will not blow my shoulder sawing crooked ragged cuts

Re: RknRusty!! Got presents!
When you get a chance cut a stack of 1/16 where you have a pattern drawn on the stack and the stack is bound. See if it cuts true through the entire stack, stops at a hard line, makes curves properly, through all the layers (hint hint)
Also will it cut a 2x4 standing on the narrow edge? Taller? If it will you can make stock as needed for other projects.
I have been after a scroll saw for over a year and just not wanting to spend on new. I have a number of different projects and materials to feed one. I'll get one soon.

I have a Craftsman scroll saw I got 15 yrs ago. It is amazing how great a tool it is in this hobby.

Re: RknRusty!! Got presents!
I don't know if a 2x4 will fit. I'll try it tomorrow.
The only thing I wonder is if this Harbor Freight stuff is tools that were returned to a mainstream retailer because they were defective. I bought 3 ceiling fans from Southeastern Salvage and they were all busted in one way or another. They had apparently been former Lowes stock. Blade irons had broken screws in them, or were mismatched weights. One had to have wires to the controller resoldered. I don't know if HF is the same sort of junk. The saw seems to work fine for now though.

Re: RknRusty!! Got presents!
Within the thousands for things HF has, MOST are crap poorly made in china. BUT...I say again BUT within all of that stuff are some decent tools for very good price. The small gravity feed paint sprayers and even the exceedingly cheap air brushes have served me well for over a decade. Small belt / disk sander is working fine after 8 years. Scroll saw is a few years old. And the $90 wire welder and cart my wife bought me eleven years ago still works as new. My best deal was a huge 60 gallon 6HP upright DeVilbis air compressor for $489 delivered! It is twenty years old and still running perfectly providing air for my entire 30x40 shop/garage. Most of the hand held power tools are poorly made but for the price I get a few years out of them

Re: RknRusty!! Got presents!
I have had good performance out of HF pneumatic tools. They are not as powerful as top end "brand name" equivalents but perform admirably for the price. Keep them oiled wet.
Power tools are a good question. My brother has a circular saw that is good as new after several years of homeowner use. It is equivalent to a Skil or even my Makita for his needs. My Makita was a duress purchase when I was doing construction as a side job in college, and is overkill for my current needs.
His table saw is the exact same unit that was sold by Sears under the Craftsman label _at_the_time_, and 1/2 the price. The casting marks and part emblems are identical. Research before the purchase is important. (I don't know if this is still the case with current table saws, this was almost 10 years ago now)

Wow, they even have a model that very poorly mimics the Polish PZL 50, and features wildly inaccurate markings

I painted my daughter's purple and white. She promptly stepped on it Didn't even make it 10 minutes. (My daughter just turned 5)
It is put back together and hanging from the ceiling in her room.
It flies pretty good, almost completely unlike a ball on the end of a string. It flew better before having every part smashed though. I think I'll get a piece of dowel as a handle for when I let her play with it again.

Re: RknRusty!! Got presents!
Ain't they cute. My son's Cub Scout Pinweood Derby car won it's first race by 10 feet. Then he fell down with it and misaligned the wheels and it didn't make the bottom of the track on the next run. The idiot judges weren't supposed to let anyone touch the cars after they were handed over to be raced. Kids are so freakin' cute ain't they.pkrankow wrote:I painted my daughter's purple and white.
