Jeremy's Cox Stick
After getting his Solo-Lite to fly on my Texaco, Jeremy has been trying to design another creation specifically for a Cox engine.
So far it's named the Cox Stick

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
Right now it weighs 2.94oz. He doesn't think it will be more than 4oz completed. It has a 30" wingspan.
Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
With an 049?
He's gonna be in for a mad time flying it, my 010 could fly a 4oz plane with authority!

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
Considering he's building it for me, maybe I'll have my hands full
He is designing it for a Babe Bee, but I bet any engine will mount up.

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
Good luck, have some caffeine to keep those reaction times down and made sure to do some eye work.
If I were building this I'd probably stick a tee dee .020 on it, even that would probably be outside my flying ability though haha
Enjoy the plane
You've got me thinking to throw something similar together for the G-mark .03.
What servos are gonna be in it?

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
Is he making it out of foam or coroplast? I'm thinking of trying a little R/C.

Cool, I thought it looked like coroplast on the rudder but foam on the fuse. How's the foam going to work with the fuel? And will he share the plans?

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
The foam will require very vigorous fuel proofing either through covering with a fuel resistant film or a thinned thinned epoxy concoction.
Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
And the fuel
I mostly used Diesel but most foams aren't nitro resistant either.

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
I am Jeremy the designer and builder of this plane.
I will do some testing on the nitro and foam issue. I did do a fair amount of reading about nitro and foam. Most say that it is ok. If all else fails I will either fiberglass it or use iron on covering.
The 4oz weight that is quoted will be a bare airframe without any electronics.
I think I have plans for it scanned in my old computer. I need to see if I can get them off of it.

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
Welcome Jeremy.
Thanks for clearing that up, 4oz rtf would be a pretty mean beast in the air.
I know that some foam is fine, I know we've all seen foam glow powered trainers.
My cox EZ Bee (II) is made out of foam and doesn't have any problems.
Depron foam does not react well to nitro though so if you're using that you may want to re consider.
All things considers, this plane looks like it's gonna be great fun.
Edit:I assume pinchflat is a bicycle reference, if so I've gone tubular to eliminate you

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
Pinchflat is a bicycle term. I am a service manager at a bicycle shop. I personally run tubeless.
It is Pro-Formance foam, so basically depron. I can coat the front half with epoxy.

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
Welcome Jeremy! Nice looking plane. I hope you can find the plans, my boys and I are talking about getting in R/C and it looks like it would make a good/tough trainer. And easy to repair. I'd like to build one cox and one electric.

Put something with a throttle on it to tame it down.

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
12" of snow here in STL. Work continues on the 'stick.
I tested some of the foam with 25% nitro and it shows no ill effects. Today I picked up an engine form Travis and mounted it to the plane. I had to hack off a good bit of nose to get the CG right, but I had planed on that.
The finished weight should be 11-12oz depending on how I finish it.

Gonna be fun. That engine puts out roughly 6 oz of thrust on a 5x3 prop.

Re: Jeremy's Cox Stick
I have decided to cover the plane in tissue using water based polyurethane (WBPU) as resin.
Last night I hade good progress on the fuse and h stab but the wing was problematic. I ended up peeling most of the tissue off before the WBPU had cured and started over.
