Needle Valves for Strato Bugs
Is there any engines that I can interchange the needle valve with the Strato Bug? Space Bug? Thermal Hopper? Thanx!

Re: Needle Valves for Strato Bugs
I would think the Space Bug Jr. Would be a direct swap. Come to think of it, I bet all the early needles would work.

is the correct one for:
Space Bug - Space Bug Jr. - Strato Bug - Thermal Hopper

Re: Needle Valves for Strato Bugs
They would fit, but would not be correct. The Early engines used the larger diameter head on needle valve.

Re: Needle Valves for Strato Bugs
The head on the needle valve, it's two different sizes. It will still work but is not the original style part. Kind of like putting a late model glowhead on it.
Re: Needle Valves for Strato Bugs
Correct Mark. Both variants have the same part #309 but Cox reduced the head size in later years, a cosmetic change.

I just looked at the pictures you posted on Yahoo and the yellow engine appears (to me) to have the larger needle. Since the Strato Bug was produced 1954-1956 could it be possible that both needles could be correct?

Re: Needle Valves for Strato Bugs
Hi,
No, it just must be the photo. The standard steel needle used on the airplane engines didn't really change any until early seventies (?) when the head was made smaller.

Re: Needle Valves for Strato Bugs
Ah?? All the engines I mentioned above were made before the Strato Bug so I'm not quite following what you guys are telling me?? I should have re-stated the question guys!! Will the needle valve in the Space Bug, Thermal Hopper and Space Bug Jr. interchange, operate, and look normal if I swap out the one in the Strato Bug with either needle valves mentioned in the above motors? SB, TH, SBJr were all made pre Strato Bug...Should work and look fine? Sorry for the confusion in the original question!!
