.049 W + TD Glowheads
A friend of mine just shipped me up 2 Engines I purchased from him and with these engines were some Glow Heads in a Bag and they marked W and Tee Dee...What is a W Glowhead? Is it an older style?

Early 70's take a close look and the filament will look like a "W"

Made for less than a year. Stopped production due to lawsuit on patent infringement. Same with the windback starter and the RC Bee throttle/muffler.

Do you know the specifics on them?

Re: .049 W + TD Glowheads
I only have an opinion to offer, and that is that there may not be enough exposed platinum surface area to do a good job of lighting off the charge. It may be fine when new, but as the platinum plating degrades it seems like performance would drop off faster than the coil type would, since the coil is a much longer piece of platinum plated wire. If what I say is valid(it's only a guess), throttled engines would perform even worse. It seems like a very cold plug.

W plugs won't start on a cold day. They fly fine in the summer.

Re: .049 W + TD Glowheads
From what I've been reading, Cox was in a legal battle with Atwood and Holland over the design and lost.
Re: .049 W + TD Glowheads
Wasn't that Wenmac/Testor vs. OK? Seems like there was a thread here or on RCG recently re some rare OK engined RTF's that were supposedly all destroyed due to a lawsuit concerning starters. Too many broken airplanes to fix at the moment to go searching for it....
Edit: Cox/Atwood lawsuit was regarding W plugs then? Sorry, I misunderstood. Or misread, I do that....
