Foam wing iron on covering

I've used it and don't like the results of any plastic over foam. Both Ultracote and Econocote are supposed to have low temperature applications. Even though I got it to stick, the result looked like I had covered a cobblestone road.

When we used to do it the foam was always covered with an obeche

Phil Cartier is a noted CL Combat guy and sells foam wings, kits, and coverng. He advertises in Flying Models every month.

I use Phil's covering quite a bit. It takes some getting used to like anything else. Phil does an excellent job covering the planes he sells as ARF combat planes. On compound curves it can be a little tough. Practice usually gives terrific results. Seeing that we don't require paint schemes on combat foamies we generally use colored tissue glued with white glue followed with Phil's SLC covering. The covering though has been treated chemically and will accept paint as well as glue.

When we build combat foamies, we iron on strips of SLC covering to the root of the wing of both sides and then glue together using Gorilla glue. Your actually gluing covering to covering. It's unbelievably strong and Phil had to prove this to me initially stating that it was stronger than gluing foam to foam. SLC covering however after due time will lift if oil gets under the overlap as will every other iron on covering. Phil many times paints his foamies with Rustoleum over the SLC. He's done some pretty cool paint jobs on some of his combat warbirds.

someone on ebay is selling Ace foam wing replicas. can't remember his ebay name. just go there and search foam wings. i asked if he made an 8inch chord and he said see my website, but i couldn't find an 8inch chord, only the old Ace 5 1/2inch straight , tapered and semisymmetrical. about $10.00 each + shipping.

Steve (Skaliwag on RCU and RCG) has the 1/2A wings on his site. There are listed at the bottom of the page.

He also carries a number of kits and other 1/2A goodies.

He lists a whole bunch of them, but website doesn't seem to provide much in the way of dimensions. Generic cores seem to (I guess) have the wingspan in the part number, but no idea what the chord is. May have to call/email to get all the details.

I think the owner (Jeff McClain) posts on RCG: at least I think I saw someone by that name in a foam wing core thread I was reading a couple days ago.
