Re: Amazing car engine
No bypass ports? These are the main ports that deliver the fuel. They should look like little canals. Booster ports are smaller and run along side the booster port.

Re: Amazing car engine
Golden Bees have a smaller venturi than a Black Widow. As sold by Cox, they are about the same power as a Babe Bee. The ones that came with mufflers had two bypass ports, the plain ones had one bypass port. A Black Widow will blow it's doors off.

Admin wrote:Don't let it go wide open! You'll blow the con-rod (or something else). I blew the rod in my 1971 Baja Bug engine a few years ago when I let it go wide open (I was happy and amazed to see it going so fast but that sure changed when it made a loud snap and locked up instantly). I thought I could let it go wide open like that because of the heavy shaft but you have to remember that the rest of the engine is the same as any other cox plane engine. Nothing else was damaged, just fitted a new piston and it ran fine again.
Here's a video of one of the car engines I got a few weeks ago.
Yah, not good to run those car engines at full sing unloaded. I slung the rod in my GTP Nissan car engine once. I think it rattled the reed valve circlip off the backplate and sucked all that junk under the rod, between case and rod, runing basically everything. Almost pushed the rod completely thru the piston. all the drive train was spinning and the clutch was engaged on the engine, so all that rotating mass had a go at the engine damage once it tried to lock instantly. Re: Amazing car engine
Use a .082 drill bit. I find that it really helps performance. Be careful doing it though. Some engines do not take to it like others. Can make starting difficult.

Check the hardware store. I do not mind doing it. May be cheaper to get a bit though. Shipping varies and can get high. I am not sure if the tank needs to be drilled or not. I use a .081 bit. Power difference between .082 and .081 is nonexistent.

Re: Amazing car engine
Like I say every time it comes up, just finger twist a 5/64 (.078") bit and wallow it out a little bit. It ain't critical and it ain't rocket science. Don't use a drill, use your fingers, it's through in a half of a turn.Godsey3.0 wrote:Check the hardware store. I do not mind doing it. May be cheaper to get a bit though. Also check the venturi outlet behind the reed. It is probably smaller too. The taper, being different from the BW dimensions, makes that a flow restriction. You can still open up the inlet, but you're pretty much stuck with the outlet size.
