I just got an email from Roy's great niece, she is awaiting approval from Jeff and other family members to send me some more information about Roy from the family archives.

Hi Warren,
On your "Cox Model Engine" site, 1983, you mention Bill Selzer purchasing Cox. Bill was partners with this fellow, Doy Henley.

Thanks Mud.
Do you have any photos of the Cox pop gun that you could post?
Regards
Warren

Re: Leroy Milburn Cox
Hi Warren,
I posted pictures of the pop gun, prototype Space Bug, pre-production Tee Dee .010, and an inverted Tee Dee .049.
I'll have to search for a head-on shot of Roy Cox. (probably H.I.A.A.)

Hi Mud
Those pictures are absolutely superb! Thank you very much for sharing. I dont think too many people would have seen a genuine Cox Little Bazooka pop gun before! Amazing stuff...

That .010 is jaw dropping for a tiny engine fan such as myself any pics of the pee wee parts or are those classified?
Re: Leroy Milburn Cox
oops! The pictures I took/posted for Warren took several hours. (plus I had to dig the stuff out of storage.) In the middle of the work I just forgot to photograph the .010 parts. When I have free time I'll get on it.

Well at leases it's a name crossed off the list.
Re: Leroy Milburn Cox
Yer sorry I should have mentioned it... I got the same response a few weeks ago. It's not him.
I am now in contact with Leroy Cox's great niece (Lillian Cox's grand daughter) through ancestry.com. She is awaiting the OK from the "Jeff" we are after to talk to me and share some info. I will let you know how I go.
Cheers

was it more like a spacebug with a threaded shaft?
Re: Leroy Milburn Cox
I think Cox was striving for uniformity with their engines, particularly with the crankshaft, but was unsure of which way to go. This seems to have occurred between 1956 through 1958. I have two Space Hopper prototypes, both of which have the Space Bug crankshaft. However, one appears to have a stock crankcase, but with an aluminum extension. The other has an elongated, conical crankcase front. (Stretch a Babe Bee crankcase and you get the idea.) Conversely, I have a Space Bug that has been machined to accept the Babe Bee crankshaft. I was told that Cox made at least three reed-valve .010 prototypes. Although I have never seen the engine as a whole, it seems possible that one, or more, was made with the miniature Space Bug crankshaft, (as pictured.) Whereas the others may have been machined with a miniaturized Pee Wee crankshaft. But without seeing the engine's that’s just my speculation.

Ok I wonder who has seen one?
Maybe no one alive that is sad I would love to find one.

Re: Leroy Milburn Cox
Just wondering if anyone has a good portrait picture of Leroy Cox that can be released to the public domain for use in my wikipedia article?
I would rather not use any of the ones that are already out there as none of them clearly show his face front on.
Maybe one of you gurus with all the original knowledge and documents may be able to help?
Cheers

Re: Leroy Milburn Cox
All i can say is, WOW. This is one hell of a thread. Thank you to Mudhen and Warren (along with all others) for this amazing information. As i collect things i like to know the roots of what it is i am using. This is one of the few things i can not find alot on. Though with the rate of this thread, that might change.
Thanks for all your hard work
