Joe, last I checked they are aluminum. I use an aluminum paste polish usually preceded by ultra fine wet dry sandpaper to remove scratches. I have used a buffing wheel and aluminum polish compounds. Some folks go the Dremel route using the same stuff.

The heavy(red) and medium(green),,,skip the ultra fine blue,,it has no more effect.
I have used it on Commercial truck fuel tanks and alum bits, gunsmithing, modeling, ect.

Sorry Joe I thought they sold it there it's a car paint restorer
which is fairly gentle on metal hence the need for elbow grease.
There is a product for restoring soft top plastic rear windows
as well but that is so gentle you'd probably be rubbing till
the twelth of never with that stuff.

Re: What do you use?
These were done with a dremel and some jewler's rouge that came with the little kit I got with the felt bobs.
For hydraulic cylinder rods and stuff on the metal lathe, I use "Autosol" metal polish - a paste the same consistency as toothpaste. A bead of that on a shop rag while the stuff is turning polishes it up pretty quickly.
