These would make an excellent reference for those new to or are having problems with Cox engines. Scroll down the homepage and on the left you'll find Fuel and Troubleshooting Guides.

Forum memebrs helped Bernie write these guides about a year ago. The information is copywritten may not be copied.

Want to know how to use a Cox wrench? See the Trouble Shooting Guide. Different engine displacements require different wrenches. (except TD .049's and .051's)

SDave, well, you know...

People would prefer to ask the question over and over and over and over. It's like calling a cell phone company or bank or even calling ebay. People would rather speak to live people than research and solve or use the automated service. Lazyness is programmed into us.

Personally I don't mind answering over and over some people just need special treatment to stick around... Sometimes "RTFM" just turns people off Smile

I know how you feel daVE
People who say "RTFM!" might be considered rude, but the true rude ones are the annoying people who take absolutely no self-responibility and expect to have all the answers handed to them personally.

My thoughts are that there are several degrees of interest in "the hobby."
One is the guy who finds a plane or engine at a garage sale and just needs some questions answered right away.
Another may be someone who is rekindling a past interest in the hobby, and pokes around for answers.
Then there's the rest of us, who scour every forum we can get our hands on, and glean every tiny
bit of info and data that's out there in cyberspace.
Some people glance at guides and manuals, get the basics and are good to go. Others rely on them like a life raft.
There's a wide spectrum here, from first time to the park, to season seats, and all those in between.
I love it all. I'm a self confessed rabid Cox fan. Smoking

The above two posts reflect valid opinons so perhaps I am the dinsaur among Cox engine fans. I look at mechanical problems as a puzzle to be solved and take great pride in finding solutions on my own meddle using references such as touble-shooting guides rather than pleas for help. I've never been a fan of "spoon fed" answers. The inevitable result is a reliance on others to do you thinking for you, often in minute detail.

It's called self-reliance and for that I make no apolgies. While I am very willing to share what I know my preference is to direct questioners to sources of information so that they too may learn on their own.

engine049: RTFM = Read the FINE manual (the choice of the "f" word is optional, IMO.)

bounce

Seems like this thread merits more exposure. Ocassional users might have missed it first time through.
