That was a terrific maiden flight, Robert. The Zoomslot although an out-of-the-ordinary flying body flies well, the Cox .049 tank engine pulls it with decent flight speed.

Re: Zoomslot Saucer
Roberto, my congratulations on your flight, it seems that the machine works very well, surely according to what you comment, you have some adjustments to make, but from the outside you can see a really controlled and stable flight, of course you do everything that is so.
You know Roberto, I also congratulate you for the place where you fly, I was looking at the sector and you don't have a clean place to land, however you get ahead of the flight activity, the activity of model airplanes, that my friend speaks of passion for what you do, that , just that, is worthy of admiration and respect.
My friend Andras, (from Hungary) also flies in rough terrain, that adds to the people who really want and feel the activity. All of the above has to do with what happens in my own club, many excuses from the pilots, a few fly... simply my admiration to all those who fly despite the available terrain.
Congratulations friend Roberto!

Re: Zoomslot Saucer
Thanks, Mauricio, yes, the lands where I can fly in Hungary, remote enough from living quarters not to disturb people, are rather scarce in this country.
And what land is available is normally uncultivated, no manicured lawn like club flying fields..so take off hand launched, landing on the plane's belly because a landing gear would get stuck in tall weed and would only make the impact on landing more severe.
Occasionally I am flying in a friendly small airfield with flat terrain, but grass still too tall for a COX plane to land on gears.
I envy you guys with so much land in your large countries in North and South America where you can choose to fly even if on rough terrain..

Exciting Robert.
Build a second one and paint it like a Bumble Bee.
LOL!!….. I don’t know about a Bumble Bee Bob but how about a Monarch?…. I caught this in one of the frames….Maybe Dave’s earlier posts were prophetic
Great flight!!! Congratulates!!!!
Thanks Kim! This one’s a little whimsy to keep it lite and fun

Thank you George, Compadre …. The humble Bee is a wonderful little workhorse fortunately still well supported along with all manner of sound advice on this forum to keep them running great!!
Bravo, Robert!
Thanks Andras!!! …. Since you’re a numbers guy kind of like me, You’ll be interested to know: Although I busted my goal of less than250 grams (it weighs 290) the wing area is 289 sq in…. Right at one gram per sq in …. Still very light for .049 power…
You know Roberto, I also congratulate you for the place where you fly, I was looking at the sector and you don't have a clean place to land
Gracias Mauricio!!! You are right, My site is rough but as you say, We love to fly and will learn to use what we have…. I love the solitude of that area, It’s very remote….. Another thing that George (GallopingGhoster) and I are acquainted with and can be challenging in the Southwest US is the wind…. I watch for changing weather fronts and sometimes it calms enough to get a few flights in….
I’m looking forward to explore its fight envelope a little more…. With the throttle reduced it can nearly hover nose up in the breeze…. I’ll try and catch that on video…
The “just in case it didn’t come back in one piece “ photo before first flights…

Re: Zoomslot Saucer
hey Robert, that is an awesome jigger you have built and flown It looks so big compared to the engine but flys so well. It is amazing the designs that can actually fly compared to what we consider as the correct norm. great build and flight. thanks for sharing the video

Hi Yabby!…. I thought about you a few times building this jigger…. When I was tempted to slow down and strain at a gnat I said no, My friend Yabby pushes thru and gets them out of the shop and into the air!!!…. So there we go, Pretty quick build time for me

lol Robert no comparison in our skills. mine come out the shop quick because they are rough in their construction. your builds are that of a craftsman. i could spend six months building and i still would end up with a rough jigger. I really like the unique stuff you build and fly. be that planes or engines and mufflers. be great if you can get it to hover like a bi slob

Re: Zoomslot Saucer
Hi rdw777,
Beautiful project, thanks for sharing it...
I bet Ray Malstrom would like it...
He would be the first to fly it over Roswell, NM ! ! !
Nice wt. I have modified a fish scale to not go over 250g.
I doubt the cops will ever 'pull me over', and will not know the rules.
The no wheel 'whisker wire' landing gear helps me with my Monarch Butterfly project. Thanks.
I think that is a 'weird Moth' or a 'Mutant Bat' in your photo.
All good subjects !
Beautiful, Thanks rdw777 for sharing...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: Zoomslot Saucer
The Monarch makes a nice onithopter project. There's a single channel rudder only design for half-A that resembles a dragonfly. Got a plan of it somewhere in my archives, maybe an RCM plan. (Sad to see one of the finest plan services around severely degrade when owners changed, now out of business. Bought plans from them 30 years ago.)
Robert, you live not too far from a motorcycling friend in Seminole, TX, east of Hobbs, NM. Lot of neat little western towns there, plus really nice dining holes in the wall. (Motorcyclists know the best eateries.)

I vaguely remember that dragonfly George…. Seems like a familiar name designed it but can’t quite place it….. Now that would be a sight to see buzzing around!!!…. I’ve got a historical ornithopter about half completed that’s been on the back burner for over a year…Maybe it’s time to finish it…. Will share with this group when I do….
Those moto trips sound pleasant and yes, usually some mom and pop cafe is either the destination or along the way….My wife and do similar on the weekends but in my pickup truck taking county back roads on a slow ride with no particular schedule….Mostly bird, Nature watching with binoculars…. And of course, The out of the way cafe in some little town….Take care on your bike trips friend

About this Plan wrote:Dickie Bug. Radio control sport model.
Quote: "If you're really looking for a different approach to an RC aircraft, this is for you.
Here is a refreshing change of pace from the run-of-the-mill R/C models. Would you believe the design was sparked by inadvertently placing two Dirty Birdy (oz4915) canopies together so that they resembled the body of an insect? A bit of imagination did the rest. "

Now that's a interesting model of a Bug Looks pretty good to bee off the chart with the wing configuration, sounds as it is a easy model to fly from the write up .

Hi rdw77, gg,
Ladiie Mikulasco is a legend here, 8 cox .010s Spruce Goose :
https://ca.images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=laddie+mikulasko+dragonfly+pictures+and+images+2017&fr=yhs-tro-freshy&type=Y219_F163_204671_061223&hspart=tro&hsimp=yhs-freshy&imgurl=https%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-LX2H27q-ZMI%2FUpdSJjxrXiI%2FAAAAAAAAIoo%2F1n13Met1i48%2Fs1600%2FLaddie.jpg#id=1&iurl=https%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-LX2H27q-ZMI%2FUpdSJjxrXiI%2FAAAAAAAAIoo%2F1n13Met1i48%2Fs1600%2FLaddie.jpg&action=click
He organized many float flys around here.
He had this 3ft elec Dragonfly he would fly before the 10AM 'start engines' rule.
It flew nice and stable. Cool thing was...
He could make it 'dance around' just like a real Dragonfly !
My 'butterfly' will be simple. (the hard part for me ! )
Goal is to learn posting pics here and do a build thread.
I appreciate all the posts here on CEF.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: Zoomslot Saucer
Hello Dave, from your link, found this different dragonfly design by Laddie Mikulasko, Canadian Bug:
This one, he used the rear wing to serve also as an elevator, 2002 RCM plan.
https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=7252
Given the size of your mosquitoes, I'd say this one at 48" (1220 mm) when compared with them must be full size!
