Cox Flying Saucer - Unboxing
Got it today, promptly sent and securely packed. Seller rates a feedback atta-boy.
Box had been carefully opened, not ripped apart, still had some stickum holding the opened flap on. This thing is new, light as a feather, and the engine turns over freely. Not much to it. I think I just paid forty bucks for a Cox product engine. But, it's a worthy contributor to my wall of shame.
But, I also rescued my last Sterling Nieuport 28 kit from the loft and added it to the wall. Not shameful at all. I sold one kit, ($177.50 16 bids) gave one away to a forum member here and built two - flying one. Best model I have ever built and flown in my life. Always wondered why Fred did not like Sterling kits.
Still, for $40 I would rather have a beat up old balsa airplane with a clapped-out Babe Bee on it.

Wow, that look slike a very nice specimin. Even if it is an overpriced product engine. But overall, glad it arrived safely and in good condition for you.

Yes! Very nice new, out of box! Mine has had a few flights leaving a castor coating on the inside and bottom of foam. Reminds me of my very early attempt at turning a Wham-O frizbie into a flying saucer, that turned out more like Ken Willards Spin-Dizzies!

Re: Cox Flying Saucer - Unboxing
Thanks Chancy, and Rene I would have liked to see that. What, a Cox .049 somehow fit into a Frisbee?
I have always been a fan of box art and Cox is among the best at it. The Flying Saucer is a good example along with their helicopter boxes. Auroras boxes compete but on a lower level. Their Bird Dog box is drab by comparison but the hanger door sides saves it. Sterling boxes are well done, but nothing compares to Cox product boxes.
They may just sit on shelves, but I get to enjoy them visually.

Thats way cool! The Jupiter II lives!
I just never realised the size and scale of stuff that Cox produced and sold.
Your Wall of Shame is excellent!!!! So much neat stuff Ive never seen. I suspect most of it never crossed the pond in its day so only full on enthusiasts knew about it, and its not like we had the internet to know about stuff back then. Just aero/hobby magazines that seemed expensive to me back in the day when I was more worried about my next pint of Cox fuel. Lol.
Great collection, and yes, also agree about the box art! Any Tom Swift fan would love it. :-)

Thanks Yabby,
Tom Swift, The Hardy Boys, heck as a kid I used to even read the Nancy Drew Mysteries.
I gave my grandson the complete set (Repros) of The Hardy Boys. Covers were colorful art on them too unlike the first editions. "The House on the Cliff" was a favorite.
Just bought all 8 seasons of "House" on DVD. Great TV series ended to soon.

Thanks Chancey. I remember that Blue Angles Project 8. Thought it clever and remarkable at the time. Still do.
