Thoughts on buying a tee dee rc 09?
Thinking about getting this 09, anything I should be aware of before I do?

Re: Thoughts on buying a tee dee rc 09?
Don't really know if it is a Tee Dee .050 or .09 R/C.
I know if the venturi body is red like mine then it is a Tee Dee .051 R/C.
Another thing is the glow head is not original Cox glow head.
It has an adapter head to accept the use of std. glow plugs
Send a question to the seller to weight the engine.
This will tell you which engine it is.
The Tee Dee .05 R/C should weigh close to 2.8oz (77grams)
The Tee Dee .09 R/C should weigh close to 3.8oz (108grams)
Now for the one problem with the carb that I have had and that is the fuel nipple.
Over time the nipple gets brittle and breaks off.
But I have heard that Burnie (Cox Int.) is coming out with a replacement fuel nipple?
See the photos of the problem and my fix for it.

Based on the proportions, it looks to be an 09. My .074 has just about that same nipple on the carb, and it hasn’t broken yet but it appears the td-rc is modular, unlike the 074, so I could probably 3d print a new one. Thanks for letting me know!

Just a stupid question regarding the carburetor on these engines. Are they air bleed type, or are there an independant high and low speed needle adjustments on them? Never seen one personally, so do not know.

i'm pretty sure these ones are airbleed, i know the 074 is not. i have a fixed airbleed on mine, however.NEW222 wrote:Just a stupid question regarding the carburetor on these engines. Interesting, thanks for the information. I just really got wondering when I actually started thinking of how small the carburetors are and how they are tuned.

Re: Thoughts on buying a tee dee rc 09?
To answer the question of the carburettor neither the .074 or the rc tee dee .o49 .09 uses a second neadle for the idle speed it uses the same system air bleed type excep the .074 Didn't have the hole and screw Which is easily installed a simple modification Good Find on that .09 rc Mine is attached to a big stick designed for a .10 the cox .09 rc a Very good little engine with good power To weight ratio

Re: Thoughts on buying a tee dee rc 09?
Another way of distinguishing the Cox Tee Dee .049 R/C from its .09 R/C big brother is that while the .049 has a conventional Cox glow head, the .09 R/C has regular short glow plug in an adapted glow head.
Bob Aberle did a review of both engines in Flying Models:
http://sceptreflight.com/Model%20Engine%20Tests/Cox%20Tee%20Dee%2009%20RC%20and%20051%20RC.html
The muffler used on the .09 R/C also fits the Cox .074 Queen Bee R/C.

The muffler -I guess, "can"- is the same as the .074, however the manifold is different. on the 074 it's one piece and is indexed by the carb manifold. On the RC 09 it's indexed by the venturi and is two piece.
fun fact

I don't understand what you mean by "manifold"...... part of the exhaust system or part of the carb or ?
The carburetors on .074 and TeeDee .09 R/C are certainly different but the exhaust system on the two engines are pretty much the same except for a bit of cosmetics and, I would assume, interchangeable. I have both engines.

I’m talking about the part that’s between the muffler and the cylinder and the part that’s between the carburetor and the crankcase

OK, now I understand.
The muffler assembly for Queen Bee .074 R/C and the Tee Dee .09 R/C are the same size and attach to the engine cylinder the same way.
As you mentioned the lower rim of the muffler manifold indexes/keys to the carburetor bodies of the two engine in a slightly differ way.
To mount the .074 R/C muffler assembly to the Tee Dee .09 R/C, one would need to file a small (1/8" notch) into the lower rim of manifold to key into a small plastic nub on the carb assembly.
The rear lower rim on the manifold of The .09 R/C already has a "flat" that I believe would key/index to the body of the carb on the .074 R/C.

I guess that flat is cut on the rim also to allow the close mounting of the 09 into a usual engine mount. Without the flat, the rim would bump into the face of the engine mount and necessitate the placement of the engine more forward.

But it’s beveled
Maybe cox made the 074’s manifold then milled out the top and cut the slot in the front to keep costs down
