Buying used Cox engines
In my experience Cox engines that have sat unused for many years deserve a through cleaning and inspection. Old castor oil residue can "gum up" essential parts like the needle valve seat and the reed valve. I use lighter fluid (aka: naptha) for cleaning purposes. (Yes naptha is flammable) "Freshening" a Cox with new gaskets as is a new fuel pick-up is advised as well.
Obtaining common Cox replacement parts is no problem with serveral vendors providing good selections at reasonable prices. Further Cox engines are about as simple as one could imagine with a special spanner wrench essential to removing the cylinder head from the cylinder. Be sure to use a properly fitting screwdrivers to avoind damaging screw heads.
ALWAYS use fresh fuel to avoid problems.

exactly, even new in the box ones. i have purchased new in the box cox engines that have been sitting in the hobby shop for years, they get full of dust and the oils they used sometimes gum them up a little.

Re: Buying used Cox engines
Yes I bought a nos engine that was oily one the outside due to hobbyshop residue
Thoughts on buying "old"
Especially when buy old engines I look for signs of abuse rather than neglect especially in the more common engines. Just about any Cox has parts value if anywhere complete. "butchered" cylinders, for example or missing parts, diminish an engine's value considerably.
A "garden variety" Cox may be worth $3 or $30 depending on it's condition. The more exotic ones will fetch more with the same caveat.

Yeah, a lot of the NIB engines from the Leisure Dynamics era have a nasty type of factory lubrication that tends to harden over the years

They are on the list to get manufactured. Hopefully they will be ready in a month or so.

Any .010 parts on that list?
I always wanted to try larger cox engines like .09's but I have only really ever run sub .049

Gotta find about 1000 people to buy the 010 stuff
I doubt there would be anything other than spinners, gaskets, things like that.

Try www.coxinternational. com for small Cox parts. You might be surprized what's available.

If this site gets bigger you could use I to gauge demand for productions.
Re: Buying used Cox engines

Nitro: "If"?
What do you mean "if"? How about when?
You might remember that Coxes have a fair following in Europe and other countries like Australia. Consider the zillion Coxes that were manufactured in fifty years of production.

We carry very similar products to Bernie at Cox International (with the exception of a few).
I was only making reference that it isn't not currently feasible economically to produce certain parts even if we manufactured parts jointly with Cox International

Re: Buying used Cox engines
Yes cox made more engines than BMW merceydes and audi put to together ever
Or have I said that already. There is a major cox following in Europe especially for the smaller engines like .010 or .020 tat regularly go for £80 that is over 130 dollars
