Wanted WANTED: Piston/Connecting Rod set for Holland Hornet .051

Post  Kim Wed Mar 25, 2020 11:27 am

Want to buy or trade for Piston/Connecting Rod set for a Holland Hornet .051.

"Ole Paint" threw a shoe this morning!!

Either lost a prop because of a snapped connecting rod, or snapped a connecting rod from the shaft-run after losing the prop. Either way, I could sure use a new set from a trashed core engine or if someone has a mfg. part in their stash, they could part with.

Uncle Wayne said I could have his, but I'd still like to fix this ole dog if possible.

The moment will be included in the next video!

Kim, Randy at Mecoa owns the tooling for the Holland Hornets. He actually made a few some years back. This is one of those engines that he mentioned earlier on the website not to inquire about. I personally would inquire . He might just have what you need.

Thanks Ken. I thought about it, and checked his store on Ebay. I'd tried to get some parts for a Wasp many years ago, but the emails just sort of fizzled.

Maybe give it a shot.

Uncle Wayne has located his .049 Hornet, and says I can have it, but I'd still like to fix this one.

Kim, that's one of my favorite engines. Funny thing is, I don't own one. My buddy Dennis has one for me which I've been patiently waiting for . He said it was new but that doesn't mean it is. If you have an example, make a vid of that engine if you don't mind. You just don't see them running.

Will do, Ken. I've got the 30 seconds of footage before it's rod gave up, it's previous runs several years ago were still photos I believe. Gonna put together another run video with some more engines one I get about 3 minutes worth.

I hope you can find one, I wouldn’t mind having a spare for my Hornet. I have been watching the MECOA site for years with no change whatsoever.

As you have found out the rods are on the weak side, I have run mine once, but didn’t open it up for fear of breaking the rod.

Good luck man, whole engines do pop up on Ebay. Maybe you can go that route and snag a donor.

Thanks Ron,
I'd probably drop some money on a .051 runner, but still hope to find a spare set. Once this virus situation lets up and I can visit Wayne again, I'll have an .049 version to run.
