Re: Turbo heads by Kamtechnik
Thanks Brad. Did that. Just tached at 22.7k as best with a medium hot plug. Added a 2nd shim and tached near 22k.The stock head with 1 shim tached 5 minutes later at 24k. All this with 20% nitro and stock 3 bladed COX prop. What do you think?

Re: Turbo heads by Kamtechnik
I see Nelson adapters coming soon.
I just ordered 3 Kamtechnik Turbo >049/.051 heads
What is the consensus on a good Turbo plug for 25%, 35% nitro in a TeeDee
Yes Virginia I am searching here and reading what I find
And link to source please
Edited in..Funny, I searched every where for this that I remember reading and it ended up being in THIS thread...
"RP6 Med. TD .049 / QB / .09 / .15 (good idle 25% nitro) Blew a plug at 33.7k rpm undecided if this is a issue yet.
RP7 Cool TD .049 (*best with tuned pipe) / QB / .09 / .15 no issues perfect with high nitro.
RP8 Cold (tuned pipe or 45% - 60% high nitro) Yes will be tested with a TD .15 / Mark II with RC carb."
Now to find sources for small quantities

Re: Turbo heads by Kamtechnik
24k with the 3 blade what was it just at 24?
It's a good number will unload 28k fantastic power.
You can try a hotter plug with the .020 / #4
1 shim keeps it simple / may need two with the 4.5x2 I did.
Just depends on the engine condition. How other add on parts
effect the engine. Recommend the aluminum backplate for a cooler
case hard mount with a center prop sings higher notes. I like the
aluminum carb body too.
This time of year air temps / moisture content will come into play of course.

Re: Turbo heads by Kamtechnik
Thanks Brad. The 24k is with stock COX head. The turbo head peaks at 22.7k under the same conditions. Will try a hotter head but I think it is premature ignition already with the medium plug that pulls the rpm down. The filament in the stock head is much thinner and radiates less heat than the mefium turbo plug, that may therefore cause excessively early ignition timing?

Re: Turbo heads by Kamtechnik
All testing was done with a 4.5x2 and venturi.
I also tested #4 for throttle RC carb and sleeves. Yes colder plug
may be the ticket, will have to play around with the 3 blade, let
us know what works best.
Tee Dee .049 / Kamtechnik Turbo Plug Adapter / APC 4.2x4
23,498 rpm / 7.8oz thrust / .120 hp - 89w / 90 mph pitch speed
OS RP7 / 2 head gaskets / 15% nitro / ACE NV / Throttle sleeve
SPI / stock venturi.
Update 1 head gasket 24,386 rpm.

First off Thank You Brad for all the research you have done , this is a Big help to get the most from our engines with the tubo / Kamtechnik replacements . Does anyone know what heat range the Cox glow heads are?

Re: Turbo heads by Kamtechnik
logic sez cuz Cox recommended 25% to 35% nitro the heads were medium to cool/cold in two configurations, high compression and very high compression controlled by copper shims

Re: Turbo heads by Kamtechnik
This make sense Fred and i just went back to Wiki,, #302 Pre 1955 Standard Head - Hemispherical shape - Low Compression - Smaller dia. threads - used on Space Bug, Thermal Hopper, Space Bug Jnr and Strato Bug Only.[27]fredvon4 wrote:logic sez cuz Cox recommended 25% to 35% nitro the heads were medium to cool/cold in two configurations, high compression and very high compression controlled by copper shims
#302-1 Post 1955 Standard Head - Hemispherical shape - Low Compression - Larger dia. threads - used on all engines produced post 1955 until the #325 head was produced in 1979.[27]
#325 Standard Head - Hemispherical shape - Low Compression - Larger dia. threads - used on all post 1956 engines except Tee Dees, QZ, Killer Bees, Venom and Texaco. Replaced 302-1 head in 1979. There are several different exterior appearances to standard glow heads, all noting a slightly different internal shape, compression and glow coil heat.[28]
#1702 Hi Compression Head - Trumpet shaped - High Compression - knurled top - 4 fins on early, 3 fins on later (fastest), 2 fins on most recent - used on Tee Dees, Killer Bees, QZ and Venom. differences range from 4 fin heads being high compression dome shaped to high compression trumpet shaped.[29]
#315 Texaco Head - Hemispherical shape - Low Compression - 5 fins - used on Texaco Engine only. Supposedly allows greater cooling for engine when swinging larger propellers.[30]
