A little help plz
Hello, first post.
I was considering purchasing a Norvel .049 for the throttle control, then I discovered Cox has two types for the .049's. Sure, I have several NOS Cox .049 motors, but which control works better? The throttle ring or the barrel carb type? I would like to run an external tank as well so either style should be fine. I have had these motors since i was a kid, and never get tired of hearing the shrill of "WFO" Cox engines.

In my experience (which is limited) the throttle rings work well and are priced right. I have heard that the .05 carbs on the tee dee throttle well too. I had a Norvel .061 and only throttled it once. But for $10 or $35 you can throttle an engine you already have and save a few bucks.

049 throttles
The throttle ring may be the way to go for most options,I`m assuming your 049`s are reedvalve and not teedee or medallion models?

Yea,
the only motors I have left are the lower end sure start series, I had several NOS high end .049's years ago, but sold them all off thinking I would never use them. So, the sure start series should be reed valve, and your saying the throttle ring should work fine on these?
I am glad these parts are available, the only other choices I know of would be NV or a Chinese Knock off. The last plane I flew with a Cox .049 was an old cabin cruiser (free flight) converted to R/C. It flew scary fast for 2 channel and no throttle, but was so much fun I would like to build more with the much needed throttle control. 1/2a is such cheap fun, never gonna quit.

Re: A little help plz
Hi Del welcome on board.
There are several ways of doing it and although I've got several throttle rings to utilise soon, if I were starting from scratch
I'd take a look at Bernie's,- http://coxengines.ca/product.php?productid=284&cat=13&page=1
It's only 15 bucks and I think installation (ie servo to throttle) would be a lot less hassle.
Good Luck
