Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
Hello Katemannt, (Timo) welcome to the forum and congratulations on your project.
Do you have any video of it flying? If so do you have a link to the video / film / movie?
It does not look like you have flown it yet if those photos are current.
- What is the weight of the plane?
- What is the wing span of the plane?
- What prop are you using?
- Do you have a link to the plans?
Reso tube.. translation muffler?: sometimes you can find them on Ebay
Watch this site for upgraded parts one request is a manifold for the TD .09 the radial mount is already for sale.
I hope to be testing one soon. https://kamtechnik.com/
Katemannt is this a Reso Tube?

I will need to know what prop size you used too.

Welcome Timo!
Brad, I think by "Reso-tube" Timo means a tuned pipe (Resonance pipe) like you have on many of your 120+mph wonders.

Best pass 36,747 rpm gives a theoretical 157mph potential from a HQ 4x4.5 prop per audio tach from brief bursts of rpm past camera. With the right size plane the prop speed can be used to it's full advantage. Per Doppler wave analysis: 238 kmh / 147.89 mph best pass. Down wind shallow dives gets the rpm / speed up, prop is too small into the wind or when pushed in steady banking turns.

Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
You may have to search for the Ucktkam .09 pipe. It is the only one of that size that I am aware of. It is usually set up as a marine engine, you may find the motor with the pipe as a package fairly reasonably priced. The motor itself is often a dud without a lot of work. You will have to make a header adaptor, or get someone else to do it. I would just use an AP .09. It is a bit more up to date, unless you just want to use up the TD. Never mind, Brad beat me to it. That is the pipe.

Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
Hello Timo,
welcome to the forum. I am from Budapest Hungary, and also fly RC planes that I have built around TD09 engines. (Below is a SIG Wonder and an old-stock Sterling Cosmic Wind I built from kits, both powered by TD09-s)
I used a tuned pipe only once on TD 051 and my experience was - and Brad will correct me if I am wrong - that unless your engine is non-SPI (i.e. the piston skirt will not clear the exhaust port when on TDC), the tuned pipe will not work best.
So you may want to check if your TD09 is a non-SPI engine (as far as I know only the ones with R/C carbs and exhaust mufflers were made to non-SPI geometry). If not, then you may need to raise the cylinder by placing shims between the cylinder base and the crankcase, and remove equal thickness/number of shims from between the cylinder and glow head so as to retain the stock compression or stay near to that.

Thank you very much.
I just wanted to increase the power with the tube. But if the effort is not worth it, then I prefer to leave it. Please excuse ! Google translation.

Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
I suggest you put hot gas deflector plates cut from e.g. beer cans between the exhaust ports and the engine cowling of the plane otherwise the hot gases will soon destroy the engine cowling area...my experience..this is what I added ( cut from a Miller Light beer can ) to my Cosmic Wind after I saw the balsa started to roast in hot gases:
Your TD09 seems to be built into the cowling even tighter than mine so you'd better do this before the maiden flight

Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
It is worth the effort if you do it right, requires a good manifold only a few have ever
used the correct parts to make it work well.
Example:
Published on Dec 21, 2018
TD .051 / HQ carbon 4x4.5 / Profi 1/2A Tuned Pipe / MRP 30.8K rpm
Pipe's MRP is 7.5" set for unloaded state 132 mph pitch speed
Peak static 27,051 rpm / 115 mph / .164hp - 122w / 8.5oz thrust
CNC manifold with crank case backplate pressure tap and custom
spun 13mm bullet spinner. Total system weight as shown 74.3g
25% Nitro / 20% Castor / 72F. To see photos and additional info:
Published on Sep 23, 2018
Prop Carbon Blend HQ 4x4.5
Static 28,100 rpm peak no needle tweak very thirsty
9.17oz thrust / .184hp / 137.3w / 120mph pitch speed!
This is the hottest static test to date of any known TD .051
9.2" MRP (mean reflective point) 30% nitro / 20% castor
This engine has SPI and it works.
Published on Feb 17, 2018
Bench testing prep for flying Nano III / 9.4oz RTF
Best peak per vid / 28.1k rpm / 120 mph prop speed
137.3w/.184hp / 9.2 oz thrust.
used the correct parts to make it work well.

Mr. Balogh, what is the deal with that pinch off clip near the needle valve? Looks useful. The aluminum duct tape might work instead of the beer can. No one likes that horrible light beer around here.

Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
Beware of our American mates on CEF who may be affectionate with Miller Light beer
I needed an L bend to approach the fuel nipple on the carb with the short fuel line, but I only had a T part of which one leg had to be closed. I put a ballheaded pin into this leg and pulled a silicone tube over it that seals with the ball stuck tight inside. But I can also hang the fill line black-eyed plug on this leg after the tank is filled just to prevent it from flying free when the engine runs.
Sticker duct tape will peel off the plane. Aluminum foil will have an air gap between the foil and the balsa fuselage that acts as insulation. But kitchen foils are not stiff enough that is why I cut the shield from beer can...you may want to use Löwenbrau instead of Miller Light

Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
Lowenbrau sounds wunderbar. Very premium priced here. I thought maybe that black pinch off valve could work well for using a bladder, but noticed you had a throttle. That TD .09 would be good on the Sig Wonder. Mine came out tailheavy so I used a heavy Fox .15 BB. I seldom go full throttle for too long. I get flustered when doing fancy stuff at that speed. It's all fun though. Gets the butterflies in the stomach.

Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
My TD09 sits on a long mount and I put the battery and balloon tank as close to the nose as I could thus the SIG Wonder has its center of gravity just under the main spar..a very squirrelly plane indeed and takes real attention to fly it level but is a good flyer though

Re: Tuned Cox Tee Dee09
Mine had the old style OS .15 on when I got it and it balanced on the spar. I didn't enjoy it at all. In fact I bet that is why I got it so cheap. I checked the plan and it said 2 3/8" behind the leading edge for balance. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/980756/Sig-Wonder.html?page=17#manual I made up a spacer for the motor mount and it needed 2 oz. more noseweight to get it. I used the heavy Fox still with the spacer and it is really smooth and still corners well. Try a heavy spinner nut for a couple flights to see. You will like it.
