RWYB OFFICIAL FLIGHT ATTEMPT FOR CONTEST
I don't know how to make a YouTube video stick on this. So I will try to manually input the link to the video of my entry flight. I think to actually get to the video, you will have to put in the http stuff before all these letters I'm going to show. Thank you!
If somebody knows how to link the video to this site, please do! Also, teaching me how to do it would probably be a great idea also! Thanks again!

Doug! What happened? Is it something we can fix for you? From the pic it appears that the rod took a turn and played havoc with the tank. I feel bad as it was an engine I gave you. Let me know.

RWYB OFFICIAL FLIGHT ATTEMPT FOR CONTEST
Thanks for helping me with the video! Funny thing is: I am not able to view it on this site. Ha ha! Something about my browser doesn't accept it. So, thanks for getting it on here so everyone else can see it!
By the way, it must be known that the lines on my flight are 32' long, according to the rules on here. It showed 32' for reeds, and 42' for TD-type engines. Who is supposed to figure out the speed?
Its too windy today, to try out the JATO conversion, so I guess time will expire for the extra prize offering for that attempt! Dang!
Thanks again, everyone, for keeping the elements lit of these little engines!
Oh! And I think if the speed is calculated after about the 3rd lap, when the engine dragged- down a little, 10 solid laps can probably give the best time. Maybe. Thanks! GUS.

Gus I'm getting 57 MPH on your run. I'm not the judge and Brad has had some input here as well. Ken

* Voting:
TOP MPH calculated from 32 (REED) or 42 (FISE) foot lines is 80% of the total
Build and testing documentation is 10% of the total
Execution, complexity, originality, uniqueness, fit n finish, 10%
I am not the Judge just helping with the numbers.
My likely averages for 1/2 mile runs:
Ken 10 laps / 42' lines Tee Dee
1799.28 ÷ 24 seconds = 71.97 mph
Alan 13.125 laps / 32' lines Reed
1799.28 ÷ 28.5 seconds = 63.133 mph
Alan 13.125 laps / 42' lines TD
1799.28 ÷ 26.2 seconds = 68.7 mph (5 laps x 2)
Doug 13.125 laps / 32' lines Reed *time started after 1st lap.
1799.28 ÷ 33.2 seconds = average up to 54.2 mph
I am not sure if you guys like my method it is what I am using.
10 and 13.125 laps is a work out no doubt but gets a good average going.

Brad, your assistance in my opinion is most helpful. I think it also takes any doctoring of numbers from the equation. My method is also a average of laps. I'm using a stopwatch so I do it over and over checking for accuracy. I took Doug's best lap time and arrived at 56. something. If I recall it was 2.48. I certainly would like to see more going on with this and I felt the choice to run anything would've pacified that.

This is the FISE entry from the end of page 4. https://www.facebook.com/tatijana.feil/videos/2518982331517636/ I figure about 69.32 mph from the first 5 laps. Only got 8 on the video. I guess that makes me the first loser in the TD (.051) class. 42 ft. lines .009" dia. Sorry about the Facebook vid. I am not patient/techsavvy enough to register on Youtube. This is a good calculator for different # of laps. A bit inconvenient because of the metric length. http://www.flycl.co.uk/control_line_speed_calculator.htm

Alan your engine was not singing you should do another vid.
Alan 13.125 laps / 42' lines TD
1799.28 ÷ 26.2 seconds = 68.7 mph (5 laps x 2)
The master list has been updated.

I measured 13 seconds for 5 laps a few times, so the numbers you punched in were slower at 33 seconds. I got 13 seconds x2 to get 10 laps which would be 26 seconds for 10 laps. The calculator gave him 52.68 mph. Pretty much what Ken calculated.

The engines are evaluated at 10 laps for TD and 13.125 laps for Reeds.
Total travel 1/2 mile.
So not going to only measure the sweet laps for top speed.
For your TD run I had no choice but to measure 5 x 2
Your run.
Stated 69.32 vs My calc. 68.7

Ya I know the setting was off. The motor was shaking too much and the fuel was foaming. Any leaner and it would quit on the ground. It would have been all right in the air once the centrifugal force took over and the bubbles went inboard. The .051s are not balanced as well as the .049s and the tank mount is not very solid. I could have put in an .049 and even mixed up some higher nitro fuel. Another mount and a bladder... My lovely assistants had trouble finding time to help. I do have the proto in my avatar that is monoline that went 82 mph but I don't want to fly it on grass.1/2A Nut wrote:Alan your engine was not singing you should do another vid.

Re: 2018 to 2019 CEF Run What YA Brung UNLIMITED speed contes (CLOSED)
You have time to tweak your rig and give ken a run for his money.
When is the contest over? I read it requires 5 to enter to be valid
for cash prizes.
Likely averages for 1/2 mile runs not best laps:
Ken 10 laps / 42' lines Tee Dee
1799.28 ÷ 24 seconds = 71.97 mph
Alan 13.125 laps / 32' lines Reed
1799.28 ÷ 28.5 seconds = 63.133 mph
Alan 13.125 laps / 42' lines TD
1799.28 ÷ 26.2 seconds = 68.7 mph (5 laps x 2)
Doug 13.125 laps / 32' lines Reed *time started after 1st lap.
1799.28 ÷ 33.2 seconds = average up to 54.2 mph
Need two more to enter their vids to turn this into a contest.
When is the contest over does anyone know I assume is was extended.

While I should not be taken as official, I believe midnight is the deadline, so a half hour from now? I don't know what happened to Roddie and his pretty Rare Bear, and the others.

Well considering there are two others on the cusp of flying something perhaps the
powers that be will let it go till Aug 15th.
If so Jim can sort out the fuel thing
Roddie has posted pics of what appears to be completed planes.
akjgardner and Bob said they had something to enter as well.

Re: 2018 to 2019 CEF Run What YA Brung UNLIMITED speed contes (CLOSED)
I clearly stated that I will be working when the deadline for entries comes about. That said, I am still working so entries are still being accepted until I can find enough time to judge the contestants.
While I do appreciate the help in calculating lap times and overall speed, please understand that myself or Fred is the deciding party.
This is a fun event so let’s curb the competitiveness. Fred and I spoke last week and came to an agreement that prizes will be in the form of gift certificates from our major supporters.
It made more sense to send out gift certificates than cash or checks, also it allows us to give back to those who support our many events and lets Fred relax a bit as he could use some rest.
More to come, please be patient, you guys have worked hard and it hasn’t gone
unnoticed.
Ron

I have a problem LOL After falling down a few times i just don't want to put myself at risk for entry/injury , so with that being said , i have a son that can i think fly something hot , would that be acceptable ? I did the build and engine runs myself and would be the tuner and launcher . If not i understand .

Yay Jim!!
Ron,
The big question of how fast will cause some banter no way was intended to be official
as previously stated. Just a way to line up the runs for some early bird data for the contestants
asking for help / feedback. The discussion going on is just part of the entertainment portion for
CEF members to enjoy.
