From a German customer. Any insights from you guys and gals?

1. I know normally shouldn t use muffler on TD051 or TD 049, because they have Sub Piston Induction, the muffler will reduce the performance, right? But I really saw some TD051 has muffler, why?

2. I have TD051, I use the muffler which I bought from your shop, runs very hot, I install 2-3 timing shims, but still very hot. What I can do? The reason is from the muffler?

Too many variables to diagnose HOT running

Head
Prop
Fuel mix
Cowl
crank to nose fit
Piston fit

From my inter netting it seems MOST agree Mufflers and SPI slightly reduce top RPM but I have never read that the engine also ran very hot

ask customer for more data

Sounds like he is running the stock round muffler with no header just a breather hole.
He needs non spi cylinder or that type of muffler will just kill the spi function and cause the
engine to draw in more exhaust heat back into the crank case. The TD RC muffler would allow
more expansion volume but still hinder SPI.

I have run many Medallions with the Muffler and adjustable NVA and each has some SPI...they do not generate the same PEAK RPM as a open carb /exhaust .049 medallion but only by a few hundred RPM

I always us minimum 25% nitro up to 35% with 24% to 28% oil mostly castor with some 5% to 10% synth

Cylinder head shims and different plugs to find the reliable sweet spot...to date since 2012 (when I came back) I have only blown up 4 engines due to over max RPM....none in the air or on the bench ran HOT...once I polished the crank or got compression correct
