Re: The postman came today
Wow, what a cache of engines and 2 good snags, the earlier Golden Bee and (drum roll) Tee Dee .051! Even if the Golden Bee lacks the earlier 3 piece piston, you still have a "Hollywood" set engine. On display or on a plane, it would be photogenically correct for the period. No one would be able to tell the difference on the "silver screen" (YouTube).
Now all you need is a period correct plane to show off your Golden Bee prize!
May be a 1953 Hal DeBolt DeMECo (DeBolt Model Engineering Company) 34" (865mm) Livewire Kitten?

Will do, nice running engine BTW. I am most impressed with the tank seal. Good work, shuts right down when you blocked the vents. It needs a spring, but in no way would I ever put one on! The anodizing is too nice.

Thermal hopper back plate.

Re: The postman came today
I think the Golden Bee will be correct with either piston. Apart from the neat factor, the 3 piece pistons are not that great. Very sloppy ball socket fit with no good way to fix.
The backplate in the pic above doesn’t look like a thermal hopper to me. If it is it’s been heavily modified. Doesn’t matter because you are looking for the snout anyway.

Looks like a Golden Bee tank cut down with a needle ass. installed . How do you plan to mount it ? I have a three piece piston with a rod that you can have . P.M. me your address and I will send it to you .

Re: The postman came today
So I realized I had 2 early Golden Bees. Took some pictures, one has never been run the other has. Neither had the 3 piece. I really think they came with either, but that’s only a semi-educated guess.
I have attached pics so you can see the condition of the 2 examples. You’ll have to excuse my dirty fingernails, been refinishing old chairs all day.

Re: The postman came today
Hey there Ron. Your Golden Bees look very nice. What makes your Golden Bees the early models? Is it the big head on the needle, or different cylinder? I have one and would be fun trying to date it, or at least figure out earely or late model. Thanks.

Re: The postman came today
The big head needle is one difference. The backplate color, lack of screen, no made in USA on backplate. Glow heads are early 302-1 on both. Tapered crankcase, no groove for starter spring, thin walled #2 cylinders and the anodizing is a little more pale than the later GB. That’s some of the differences, but I probably forgot one or two.

Re: The postman came today
Good stuff guys, Mike I will pm you, what do you want in return? RC plane stuff all sizes if you need something.
As far as this golden bee I think it has the fill/breather tubes on the backplate, but I have to check again, I got tied up since getting back from a business trip. So I may just have the tank and now the front from the one I am waiting on (shipping says Thursday).

I did the same thing with a Pee Wee but used a RC carb at the end, also bored out the stem a
bit to increase the air/fuel mix.

Re: The postman came today
Hi Mike! I did get those pistons, but as we were leaving to camping for a spell. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
They look like they are in great shape! I ran a few engines with my son today, I hope to get my golden bee working soon, it seems like both halves are in good working order, it will probably just need a new tank gasket and will be ready to go. I will post the results soon!
