Roddie, that Babe Bee is just like my first Bee that I bought new in 1983 or so, complete with the brass drive plate. Actually that is the correct spring for it, it should have a red plastic cam on it that just tightens between the prop and the drive plate.

That vent style is typical for the last metal backplates, not very common... I have a couple of engines like that, and unlike most bees, they have the brass drive plate.

The red cam plate can be seen on this pic, it has just a small round hole instead of a hex shape, and a stop tab for the prop blade.

Roddie, the single filler pipe backplate was late production Cox and then Estes utilized it as well. If you never had experience with it, there's something you need to know. Don't keep your face over the engine when fueling. Fuel comes out of that pinhole shooting into the air as much as 2-3 ft high if your not used to them.

Ken, thank you for your appreciation, I gladly tell you.
The liquid I use to clean my engines is: Automotive coolant containing ethylene glycol.
The way to use it is as follows:
1) In a metal container, place enough liquid to cover the engine.
2) Put it on a stove.
3) When the liquid begins to bubble by its own temperature, turn off the fire of the stove and introduce the engine to clean.
4) It is not necessary to remove plastics and rubber, this liquid does not deteriorate those elements.
5) It is better if the engine parts are placed separately and not the engine armored, that is to be able to do a deep cleaning.
6) Wait 30 minutes.
7) Remove each piece and with a plastic brush begins to remove the dirt, will observe how the dirt is removed easily.
Cool Repeat the operation as many times as necessary.
9) Once the parts are clean, submerge them in thinner (NOT PLASTICO NO RUBBER) only metal.
10) With a brush finish the parts, rinse in the thinner and dry the pieces.
11) Lubricate parts with light oil.
You will see incredible results.
Here I leave a video I made a few years ago with a gasoline engine of 55 cubic centimeters. I hope it's useful.

I like building and flying the guillows series 400 airplanes. If I build them light I can use a babe bee. I have not tried a medallion yet. You can find them for $35.00 at AC Supply with free shipping with a purchase over $100.00. (usa) They are very nice laser cut kits

Looking very nice Mauricio! Thumbs Up  I love small model airplanes.. and am enjoying looking at the photos as this one progresses. I wish we lived closer to each other.. because I have a very large supply of balsawood. I can only imagine the models that you could build with it. Is balsa expensive where you live? Is it easy to source? I don't know if balsa trees grow in other parts of the world.. but I believe that most of the balsawood that we buy here in the U.S. comes from Central/South America.

Hello, yes, I know and I have assembled some Guillows kits, they are very good, only that at the moment I am looking forward to do from scratch, even modifying something already existing to give it the best option and configuration to my liking, this is to place Radio equipment and engine, and that the model does not miss flying characteristics! Thanks for your message!

Hi friend Roddie, I'm very happy to know that the work I'm doing is pleasant.
I also think like You, I would like, much to live closer and share even a few flying evenings! .... even I think we could put together several models together .... but at least we can share in this way ... Who knows, maybe I will visit the US, and we know each other ... it would be a pleasure !.
Balsa wood usually comes from Ecuador (Central America), although I believe that they have long been planted-raft trees elsewhere.
To give you an example of a (plate - plate) raft 1.5 mm thick by 80 mm wide and 1000 mm long round the AR $ 25.00, which is about US $ 1.47.

I like the low idles you reach with the exhaust throttle rings, Mauricio.

Does you Medallion and TD051 have a thick wall cylinder, or the stepped wall cylinder? These latter do not allow the same, high backpressure when throttled as the thick-wall cylinders, where the contact surface between the cylinder neck and the ring is wider and therefore the exhaust throttle is more efficient.

Hello Andras !, the cylinders of both engines are thick, not staggered, the rings in this case are original Cox, I also like how they work, I do not know why, but the Medallion attracts me a lot!
