Guillow's 400 Series laser-cut Spit' report
Carefully removed the laser-cut fuse bulkheads from the balsa sheets a few minutes ago. Every one of them came out flawlessly with NO breakage.
WOW! Don't think I'd ever go back to die-cut kits ever again.
Pictures to follow when I have started the actual build process.

Good to hear Dave,
My new Dumas kit is also laser cut. The pieces look like they are about to fall out.

Re: Guillow's 400 Series laser-cut Spit' report
To be honest I like laser sitting and if I can't have it lazer cut I would rather have to cut it myself than have it die cut,

"laser-sitting" ????? Got me on that one. Must be like sitting the the sun while swilling a double Beefeater gin martini straight-up.

Ron:
I'm finding that lazer-cut parts may removed by simply gently twisting and shaking the balsa sheets.

SD,
I went to the Guillows site as you suggested and I now know why you gave up on the basswood. It might be a good idea to post your findings here should others want to go down that road.

Ron:
It would be simpler to have anyone interested go to the Guiilow's forum site and read the discussion for themselves. After basswood stringers I'm back to "square one" on my Series 400 Spit' Project with "wisdom borne of pain" so to speak.
There my screen-name is Deadstick Dave.

How much does this plane weigh empty? I mean, with covering but without the engine or other hardware?

Dirk,
I don't think SuperDave is at that point in the build yet. Hey may be close though.

Re: Guillow's 400 Series laser-cut Spit' report
Ok, perhaps I phrased the question wrong.
I didn't mean this particular aircraft, but rather I asked for a rough estimation on how a plane similar to that one might weigh.

I see now, many variables involved depending on constuction methods. If I would take a guess maybe 2-3 oz. Depending on what covering material you choose. That is bare frame and covering minus electrics, engine pushrods etc.
My mini Spit was around 1.5 oz and the one SD is building is almost twice the size.

Re: Guillow's 400 Series laser-cut Spit' report
Just as a follow-up, my Series 400 Spitfire is not far enough along to give an accurate indication of the weight.
I'm aiming for 14 oz. total flight weight.

Are you intending to have the prop axis tilted downwards? If so, what will be the angle?
