Re: 2017 Cox engine tach race
Back when Ron noted moving to March I got complacent knowing I had time
Dang... this year is zooming ---so now I have to verify I have the right address and get my stuff together to send
or I am in danger of maintaining my 100% "dang missed it again" status
BUT at least for me
I am IN!
I was contemplating driving up to Ron's and helping ---BUT
Renie is flying out to her girlfriend's in North Carolina that week, so I am dog sitting for two weeks

Eric.
I fairly certain that if it's a genuine P40 engine then it shouldn't have a 3 piece piston. P40 should be stamped on the cylinder. Thin wall, duel bypass with SPI.
Last time, stock class could only really consist of Babe or Golden Bees with single bypass. Something with duel bypass could go in Mouse class if we're having one.

Re: 2017 Cox engine tach race
Kinda psyched... first time entry for me in the tach-race. The engine I'd built for my "Rare Bear" 2014 CEF Reed-Speed Contest engine configuration will be entered in unlimited-class. I know it will "sing" with an APC 4.75 x 4 prop. We'll see if it sings high enough..

I don't know about the 3 pic . pis. but the cly is thin wall dual bypass and SPI , the p40 is hard to make out from a scratch but with a magnifying glass and a flashlight looks like it LOLOldenginerod wrote:getback wrote:I hope so !! i have 2 at this time ready but am concerned about the Stock (reed valve) class i have a Baby Bee P40 three pieces pis/rod and i don't think that will compete with a Space Hopper ?? Re: 2017 Cox engine tach race
Guys, This would be my first time entering an engine. I have some questions.. and I know that Ron's got a lot on his plate with work/travel etc. Maybe I missed it in the rules.. but wondered if contestants engines should have a starter-spring installed?
Re: 2017 Cox engine tach race
I don't think springs are required even in Mouse I but would probably make Rons day a little easier

Thanks Doug, that's what I figured too.. but there's no mention of it. I guess it depends on his cranking method. With the APC props on the Unlimited class.. he may not want to wind-back a starter-spring though..
There seemed to be enough interest in the contest to move forward with it.. but there hasn't been much buzz in the last few days.
I'd like to send Ron anything else he might need to make his task easier.. (along with return-postage..) Maybe some extra mounting-screws? It would be cool if he had a mount, that a horseshoe backplate would "slide-into".. with a quick-release music-wire "spring-bail" and hook.. sort of like a mouse-trap latch. It would be faster than dealing with four screws. It could probably be adapted to other engines too.
Hey.... I wouldn't be "me".. if I didn't think-up these crazy things...
