You have never used a starter on anything smaller than .049 have you?

You must have bought the last one -- they're showing OOS until the end of January. Surprised

An electric 1/2A starter is just one more thing I don't WANT to afford.

I believe the sting of nito fuel as it seeps into the cuts on your fingers is part of the overall nitro experience. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I totally agree that hand starting is preferable. My large Sullivan starter is slowly rotting away in the trunk of my car cause it never gets used. I hand crank my larger engines regularly- I figure if they won't start that way, there's something wrong with them. The .049s, .020s and .010s start fine by hand or with the spring starter.
The Queen Bee .074s however, in my limited experience with them, are user- nasty enough that they need a starter. We'll see next summer!

Agreed, the poor compression needs a little extra spin, again a spring starter will do the trick and there is plenty of room for it with that extra long nose on the QB. Just use a piece of music wire and clamp one end against the mounting lug, Norvel style.

Don't tell me off Indra.......................... Very Happy

Do these spin faster than 'normal' starters?
Reason I ask is I had tried (you all want to tell me off don't you) to start my small
engine with my Align and it wouldn't. Put a new spring on it and it fired 2nd flip.

Hey Mr. Lazy!

Yes, my Hornet spins up at what I'd call "Slow Dremel" speed...SEEMS considerably faster than my regular Sullivan Starter. I've used it in several of my planes that had cowlings too close for the starter spring, and a couple of cranky .051's.

I also used a small, second-hand motor to make a starter for my .010 when I was running it in my Sperry Messenger.

Good luck wishes trying to start a lmh110 without starter motor, I knew there was a reason I HAD to buy the hornet, couldn`t remember after all these years lol Shocked

On a side note, I bought a used cox teeddee010,came without a starter spring, here is the heart breaking part; you should see the prop that was on it......he must have flooded that thing really bad based on how much plastic that the starter motor chewed off the prop and when I first saw the prop Affraid or WOW! ....thinking OMG!!! has to have a bent con rod, simply has to!!

but it still fires up and tops out like its not bent Hand Shake but that poor por prop lol!
