Re: ?????????????
Seen this before. Someone else on another site has one and asked the same question, and like you, got no response. Sorry I cannot help.

1) A thrust meter.
2) A rubber band puller.
3) A Ceiling hanger for static planes.
4) A slot car track alignment tool.
5) A Cox factory inside joke on everyone 40 years into the future.

Re: ?????????????
I changed the picture and it says launch on it and there's 2 little arrows just past where it says launch.

I'm pretty sure that "we" verified this as a stooge. This photo I saved from a CEF thread on 5-28-16.
Re: ?????????????
Might it "launch" a bomb, maybe a Cox car?? We're all thinking plane but maybe not.

Re: ?????????????
Stupid question time. Is there a manufacture date molded anywhere on it? If so, that may be able to give someone an idea as to what was available at that time. Just a thought.

Re: ?????????????
Does the hook somehow release when it gets even with the arrows?

Re: ?????????????
Did Cox make or sell those little toy gliders? Would the spring be strong enough to launch one?

Re: ?????????????
Good thought. Hold the little tab at the end, hook the glider on and pull back to the "launch" position, let go and away she goes. I can't see why it has a corresponding tab on the top though. The glider may strike it on launch. Also, interesting how the hook is angled to one side like that. I tried to attach a picture that Joe posted on .049 collectors but I can't currently attach any pictures. Anyone else having trouble?KariFS wrote:Did Cox make or sell those little toy gliders? I think catapult is a far more likely use than as a stooge.

Re: ?????????????
I'm thinking about what Rod said about it possibly being a drop-release mechanism.. It doesn't seem to look like anything on the bottom of the dive-bombers that I know of though..
Texan..
Stuka..
The Stuka bombs show tabs that "might" fit into that slot.
Then there's the Helldiver's "Bail-Out" pilot eject.. Could that be it's use?
Something holds the pilot and his chute down inside the cockpit.. Maybe it's a canopy release controlled by a sudden jerk of "up" input on the controls?

Re: ?????????????
There was also a free flight helicopter that launched a parachute at some point of the flight I think. Never seen one of those but maybe...
Re the use as a glider launcher, it could be missing a handle or something. I also thought the glider would hit the tabs plus the tabs look kinda awkward to grip to.
I am almost certain it is not from a C/L plane, nor an accessory to one, otherwise someone would have recognized it already.

Re: ?????????????
Perhaps an engine trust tester? Hook it to the tail or nose wheel, and check for sufficient thrust before release?

Re: ?????????????
It's a launching? gismo included in the Cox Eagle II kit. It can be seen in the 1987 catalog page 4 in the instruction sheets page.

Re: ?????????????
Well Done Lieven! The glider uses a Hi-Start.. and that piece must be the release. This photo of the box shows the launching system.
