AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
I’ve lost an engine! I've looked all over and I can't find it anywhere. I know, “Bid Deal” you say. “Too Bad” you say. “Mark talks about the engine deals he stumbles upon all the time” you say. But this is different. It’s an .049 TeeDee with an Ace fine needle assembly. I need this one. I need it. I NEED it!!!

Don't worry. You no doubt, one day, overcome with a brilliant idea, put it away in a super safe place where nothing could happen to it. And see, it worked, nothing is happening to it Lol...sorry, I couldn't ...Lol help myself. It'll turn up.batjac wrote:I’ve lost an engine! I've looked all over and I can't find it anywhere. Sorry to hear that. I agree with Rusty that you put it away in a safe place and it will turn up. I am also speaking from experience. Did you look in your hand? Long story.....

Well, I couldn't find an engine. I was sure it was on the nose of a plane when I shifted it from my parent's farm after mum sold up & move to town. This was before my interest in flying was rekindled. When I checked, no, it wasn't on the plane. Well, must be in a box somewhere. So, we moved house. Still didn't show up. Searched my mum's place. No sign of it. She eventually managed to get me to take all my old stuff she'd been storing for years. Checked all the boxes- nope! Mum passes away last year so we cleaned out the house to sell. Still nothing. I have no idea where that thing went. I have everything else I can remember having from the early days.
I've now given up all hope. Maybe the only chance would be to go see the people who bought the old farm house and check up in the roof where my old planes used to be stored. Nah, did that pretty thoroughly when we shifted her. Well, it's gone. That's all there is to it.
Mark, I hope you have more luck than me. If you're still in the same house, it will show up, but things sure seem to go missing easy when you shift house.
I lost a very nice Taipan 1.5cc diesel that used to belong to my late brother. Damn I want that engine back.

Re: AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
I have done just that so many times I can't count. I do it with entire engines, parts, etc. It drives me CRAZZZZZY!. It's my own fault but I always do as Rusty mentions, put it in a safe place then I find it later. Ken

Let's see Mark, your 53 or at least you were the last time you updated your profile. Wait until your 78.
I've lost an engine that I became very proud of, an Enya .09. I'm pretty sure that it's in my display case just six feet from where I am now, but I couldn't find it in the .09 section and I'm not going through the rest of them (150+) until I'm sure it's not sitting on an airplane in the loft.
I "lost" one of my first Space Bug Juniors one time. I looked for it for months. Then one day it came to me. It was in a box tucked away atop the foundation of our house. I had panelled in the basement along with the engine. Had to tear down the panelling to get it. It's still with me.
Check your trash, I'm in the habit of trying to do three things at once and while carrying my car/house keys, some tools and some trash I must have thrown the keys away along with the trash. That was many years ago and I can't use the old age excuse for that one.

Re: AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
Just an idea.. check any "un-built" (but opened) kit-boxes that might use that engine. Then check all your kit-boxes after that. I have a (bad) habit of stashing some engines in boxes/bags of balsa parts of WIP models.. and forgetting about them.
Here's a list of projects/events of yours that I've documented; (may jar your memory.. could have ended up stored with.. or in a parts boxes/bags by mistake)
All the "BTC" series.. (including beam-mount)
"Lil Toot"
"Duplex Delta" (Coroplast job)
"Hawker Sea Fury"
"Nibbler"
"Pipe-Bomb Special"
"Focke Wulf FW190A"
"Tether-Car"
"Prop-Rod Pick-up"
"Cox Hyper-Viper" (kit/box)
"Cox TD-4"
"NW Aeroliners Fly-in" (2014)
"Ms. Pac-Man" vid-game project
Some other places to check.. desk/night-table drawers, model-plans/drawings storage, glove-box/compartments in the car, glass-jars/containers, totes, prop-storage, fuel-tank storage.. the back of your underwear drawer...

Re: AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
I had been looking for my pristine, un run, perfectly immaculate Holland Hornet for years. Every time I saw the mention of one on this forum it wound me up.
I would recall and trawl all my boxes, cupboards and shelves - I gave up. I have spent hours looking for the damn thing.
It is not like any of my other engines and so it cannot "blend" in - it has a unique shape, a blue prop driver and a red spinner. I haven't even photographed it - it was pre my digital camera era before it was mislaid/lost/gone astray/vanished/turned invisible/disguised itself/hidden from view.
Now I am wound up again

Since age 40 or so I started needing glasses for the problem of too short arm syndrome
Eye doc test and set me up with prescription glasses at $150+ later found that wally world common 1.75 to 2.0 worked just as good for $7
Recently I had a pair I liked and were better than my computer set for detail work on the models
Spent an hour looking for them
I know you all can guess where I eventually found them

I know exactly where. Just like looking for the tv remote for a half hour, right in my hand!

Re: AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
I do something when I can't find an item that drives my wife nuts. If I'm looking for my keys, and I find them, I keep looking. My wife asks what I'm looking for and I tell her, "My keys". She says, "They're right there in your hand." "I know." "Then why are you still looking?"
We've all heard the saying, "It's always the last place you look." Well, not for ME. I look a couple more places just so it's NOT the last place I looked.

Re: AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
Remotes turn up in the fridge or the laundry
Glasses are pushed up in the hair or went walkabout under furniture
It is always worth checking for another hiding spot. The cat proves that one to me every time people are working on the house. I found another spot I thought his butt wouldn't fit.
