guillows airplane
hey, i am considering buying a new guillows kit from a local hobby shop, but i am not sure which one to pick, what do you guys think would be good model to build there are just so many choices, i need to find one that is between 10-25$, it needs to relatively easy to build, uses gas engine as one of the three power choices ie:"gas, electric, rubber powered", and it needs to be a quick build
what do you guys think

Re: guillows airplane
The Guillows models tend to be labor-intensive. If this will be your first plane---Trainer---there are better choices.
Is this to be CL or R/C ?

Re: guillows airplane
Mitch,
First, go to the guillows website and look around. There are easier kits than others. For your price range you may be stuck within the 500 series. You may be able to find a Citibra 24" span within your range. 500 series have wingspans of 16-17 inches so you may have to go with .010 to .020 power.
Take a look around here in the build section for tips and ideas as others including my self are currently working on a guillows. Keep in mind that these kits were not really designed for RC so some engineering is required.
Hope that helps.

Re: guillows airplane
Decent for a .020 but that kit meet really struck me as beautiful but hey what you like.
You am get a .020 for $35 or sometimes considerably less if you wait for a miss named auction.

Re: guillows airplane
I'd first get an engine before I'd get a plane then match the plane to fit the engine NOT the other way around.
I'd advise a profile model before a Guillow's. I've built and am building a gGuillow's right now. They NOT appropriate for a rank beginner, Believe me.Profiles are far easier to build. For .049 a Baby Ringmaster comes to mind; profile, built-up wing and excellent flyer and easy-build.
A combo control-line/ RC plane is a near impossiblity and is hardly worth the effort or the expense,

that plane looks good, 2 questions, first, how much is it, second how hard would a rc conversion be?

Re: guillows airplane
Not practical idea at all. The BR is built for CL and not RC. Two very diffenent worlds.
BTW, I'm writing this having over sixty years modeling experience in both worlds.
And I will add that you will destroy MANY CL planes before you "graduate" to RC. Guaranteed! Everyone, including me, has.

Should be an easy build but, very narrow fuselage. 2 channel at best and probably run inline.
It's cheap enough that if it doesn't work out then your not out a bunch of money.

Re: guillows airplane
Mitch if you have a radio.
15$ for a receiver.
12$ for 2 servos
10$ for pushrods ETC
30$ for an engine
5$ for receiver pack.

Re: guillows airplane
I'm going to exit this thread the as poster seems quite confused. He writes of converting a CL plane to RC?????? Why would he do that if he wants to learn to fly CL.
It would be REALLY nice if he would post an introduction on the "Introductions" thread.

Re: guillows airplane
Where did he say he wanted to fly CL?
As for converting Guilow's kits, It seems to be doable as I have seen many threads on RCG. The Hellcat is the easiest. I bought one once, but it was missing half the parts.

Re: guillows airplane
Lol,
Going through the posts I can see how things would get confusing....
In short I believe Mitch wants to convert a guillows kit to RC.
It probably wouldn't have been so confusing if the text was quoted in the replies. (Preaching to myself here too)
Mitch if you haven't already done so go and post something in the introduction section as SuperDave suggested. It helps to know your modeling background so we can speak to your level of understanding. You may be an RC ace but, we have no idea.
Anyway, it's really great to have you on board and we are all friendly and helpful here. I look forward to hearing about you!
