My New Baby Flite Streak
My New Baby Flite Streak
Just completed today, now waiting for some decent weather. Built from the Brodak kit, which was excellent. TD .051 / Red Cap.

Good looking FS BadBill
I still have three Brodak 1/2a to build and want to order the Flite Streak to complete a collection of 1/2a versions of the bigger birds I have
Plus I have a bunch of engines needing homes....grin
PS I too have had good luck with red cap fueling the TeeDee , Medallions

A very nicely built plane...although I am a TD051 freak I still have no idea what you guys call a red cap?

It is a cover for caulk and other products so the unused contents last longer.
My question is : Do these perform like a pressure bladder or like a non-pressure bladder?

Re: My New Baby Flite Streak
Phil the Kitty Condoms (red caps) are under pressure but no where as high as a tubing bladder
Decades ago a lot of combat fliers wanted positive pressure but low enough to be constant for most of the load and easier to needle than high pressure systems
Kitty Condoms do this well with only one draw back over binky, pen bladder, and bladder tube...they deteriorate faster
Not really well suited for .25 and larger ( total load is practicaly limted to about 2.5oz) but are near perfect system for 1/2a in my opinion

I use the proper size pill bottle with both ends open. It's just personal preference though, you can just secure the tube and let it sit on top of the wing. The most consistent runs I have had with a 1/2A.

Re: My New Baby Flite Streak
Yeah, Bandit told me about it. Streaks are great, I wish I could say I'd flown a big one.
I only got serious about learning the fine points of building and flying balsa models in about 2011 when I built my Li'l Jumpin Bean for the purpose of learning how to fly loops and inverted. Then, after a semi scratch Li'l Satan came my first Baby Streak. Since I was a kid, I've been dabbling with Cox models including a couple of basic slat-winged Goldberg jobs, but learned a lot from those two first built-up winged planes. A lot about what makes a plane fly well. And, when I got my Tee Dee .051 powered Streak trimmed and flew my first few fun flights, I suddenly realized this was the first plane I'd ever flown that didn't feel like a toy. It was a great feeling to have such positive control with the handle in my hand. That really lit my fire, and now I'm a control line nut.
I still have the Streak and Tee Dee .049 powered Satan. What's left of the Bean is the ReFried Bean in my avatar. I recommend Master Airscrew GF series props cut to between 5.5x3 down to 5x3, and I like to round the tips. In a tight circle with only 35' lines, an APC 6x2 is a great fun prop. The TD really unloads and the plane is fast and agile. I use small surgical tube bladders and the Texas Timers conical front pickups that keep any air bubble out till the bladder is almost empty. Gives a good 2 lap warning. I either retain it with some nylon fishnet material made into a tube and tie the rear of it with a string to the fuselage. I put a Fourmost 1-way check valve in the tail for quick filling.
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have.
Here's mine with a bladder and mesh sheath. Except nowadays, I put it a little farther back on top of the inboard wing with the rear of the sheath open to get a syringe to the check valve(not shown). It gives a good thumb pinch point where the tube crosses over the top of the fuselage.
Here's the Satan

Re: My New Baby Flite Streak
Well, this baby has flown now, but I can't say it was without issues The first, main issue is that it is WAY to fast. On 40' lines, it just about screwed me into the ground. Next, it had too much control throw, which combined with the speed was lotsa fun. I thought I was used to the speed, but it's different flying a Voodoo on 60' lines and this thing. I thought TDBandit's Wildcat and my Baby Clown were fast, but this is way faster than either. I think I will re-power it with a Medallion, and maybe add a touch of nose weight, along with reduced throw. I don't want to put it on longer lines, I would rather use one set for everything this size... Not to mention, I think 40' should be long enough for a dang 1/2 A

I do not see any issues with your bird. It still looks like it is in one piece.

Scan of Ortiginal Decals available
Found on OuterZone.co.uk website are scans of the original decals. See this quote from the post.
I have the unused original decal from a Top Flite Baby Flite Streak. The decals that Brodak sell are not at all like these. When I was a kid of 10 or 12 years old my Dad and I both got one of these kits. Dad finished his up and painted it up. He put the decals on it. Mine I just covered with plain tissue and flew it. Still have the remnants of it some 60 odd years later. But like too many other things I have kept, in the box was the unused and slightly stained ORIGINAL decals. What better thing to do than to give a copy of them to you.

I bet that using one of the waterslide decal papers, either clear or white, you could add a decal to the other wing.
