No run videos from me for a while.

No run videos from me for a while.
Yup as of today due to a little encounter with the police, there won't be any more run vids for a while. I've NEVER had any problems with anyone from around here untill now!! This is due to a new couple that moved in to our little community that I didn't know about who apparently does not like noise because the cop said that they have had over five reports from them about my engine running but have been ignoring them up till today since they also (according to them) have been getting other odd reports from them all the time about other people doing stuff But finally had to come up do to some kind of threat they made to them. (Shrugs) Anyway I didn't get a ticket but they told me that I couldn't run them anymore at home or face a big ticket next time. So it looks like (unless I can make a more portable bench) no more nitro burning from the TD bench. Sorry guys just wanted to let ya know. (The Bandit is ticked!)

Re: No run videos from me for a while.
First off, why in the world are the police reacting to threats from the general public?
Secondly do you not have quiet hours? I mean what if you need to run a chainsaw or saw some wood or whatever?
Where I live as long as I don't make much noise after dusk everything is peachy.
Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Re: No run videos from me for a while.
Could go into the garage shut the door and do tests in there. Should be good for at least 5 mins before things get a bit smokey.
Airing out will happen fast with the garage door wide open. Another trick is a test box with a vent that blows the air through a down tube into a vat of water. Simple trap door to start the engine and use a servo to control the throttle. Clear thick glass front for viewing.

Get a portable work table an clamp or fasten the engine mount on that. Go visit a friend who is not in the city and have fun.
Sorry about your troubles.
An alternative is to review the noise and public nuisance laws and regulations for your city and neighborhood to make sure that you are being legitimately confronted with your operation of less than quiet machines.
Best of luck.

It's hard tell, these folks may have threatened to sue them for all i know, these people look like they are very well off and our county is quite poor our PD is not big at all, just a little building with about 10 or so cars. And about the chainsaws and such, these people were apparently complaining about them too there's alot of target shooting that goes on here as well he said that they have been complaining alot about everything from chainsaws to ATVs and running race cars. We don't have an actual quiet time unless it's the AM Sunday btw.
The cop was real apologetic and looked embarrassed. so I didn't ask what was said.
@ 1/2A Nut Sounds like a good idea. May try that.
@pkrankow: I have or "had" one of those but it fell apart worked well gonna get another one soon.
Good idea didn't think of that, like I said I haven't had any trouble till now and i've been down here for 8 years so it's never accured to me to check.

Re: No run videos from me for a while.
Living in the city sucks. I live in the city for my day job which is 100 miles from my parents farm. I can run anything and shoot tannerite targets in our pit without any concern on the farm. City is a different story.
About 20 yers ago a city couple bought 20 acres and built a house about 100' from our farm where we own a 40. We were farming dairy then and had liquid manure storage at the time. Real rank stuff that would gag a maggot and if you got it on your skin you would have to wear the smell off.
This couple called my dad at the time and asked to cease farming operations on "certain days" That was a mistake, a big mistake. My dad just laughed at them on the phone and said if they didnt like the smell to move back to the city. From that day on when we spread manure we made sure the wind was blowing right toward their house. Waited the full 48 hours before incorporating it so the sun baked it in real good. I'm sure they called the sherrif but I bet he laughed at them too. Never heard a thing from them after that.
Never [bleep] off a farmer especially if they have a hog or dairy operation.

Too bad bandit, some folks!!!!
Gunfire and model engine sounds are music to my ears. What isn't is ......MUSIC! To be specific base music played at high volumes over distances where the treble gets lost. It penetrates windows and ears, pounding. In my life time it only happened once when a couple of party guys moved into the house behind us in Maryland. We moved to Florida and have been happy ever since.
Thankfully here in rural WV we don't have those problems.

Re: No run videos from me for a while.
We live on a 1 acre lot on the east outskirts of a small rural city. Before they built new houses, the 20 acres behind our house was open. My son and his friends would shoot potato guns (launches a full size Russet potato), houses are spaced 150 feet on center. Next door neighbor runs up his repaired engines at night. We could have a party at our house until the wee hours without bothering anyone. I understand what you mean, Jason.Jason_WI wrote:Living in the city sucks. There's give and take when one lives near people. I don't know why some people feel that they own others. Unfortunately it appears that some localities have catered to these in making laws rather than considering the common good of all and respect for individuality.

Yeah it's amazing how things can change so fast via just one family. Up till now you could set off a howitzer 3 times a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and you wouldn't hear a peep out of anyone. Now you just start up a weed whacker and these folks start complaining. My neighbor says they are from Chicago and both are lawyers which is probably how they got the police to come out when they wouldn't before. (Bandit)

Re: No run videos from me for a while.
If you're running standard lawn tools doing normal yard maintenance and they don't like it, I'd say tough buns. Given these folks are touchy, I imagine that unless they bought a house, they'll probably move on in time. Folks like this will probably be most happy in a planned community, where even the color of your drapes you hang in your windows and Christmas ornaments you decorate your house and yard with must be approved by a home owners association.TDbandit wrote:Yeah it's amazing how things can change so fast via just one family. How do they respond to girl scouts selling cookies? High school sorority, band and sports clubs selling candy? Just curious.
Just a thought. Has anyone tried inviting them to a neighborhood party, over for coffee or snack? Sometimes a little honey works better than vinegar (except in healthy salads).

Re: No run videos from me for a while.
these little engines aren't as loud as a lawn mower engine . I bet if you check into you will find the noise of these little engines will fall below allowable limits. and if they do I would run those suckers every day. I Just checked . A lawn mower is 70 decibels at 15 meters

Bandit: that is just not right. I would check with the local powers that be......city, village, township....Fort? Where you live and verify you are in violation of what ever the police told you they were going to write you a BIG ticket for. Ordinance or rule specific what part of the "noise law" are you breaking? Normally those type of civil infractions start with a warning, like you received, then progress up $50 first ticket, 150 second, and 300 or more for additional violations. You should really check and find out just what law or rule or statute you are being charged for violating. the police must not think you were in violation of anything if they did not contact you the first FIVE times the crazies reported you. Check with ole Andy from Mayberry and find out just what you were doing wrong!
I know where I live ( a farming community) the township was considering writing a noise law after receiving complaints from certain citizens. After much research the township trustees decided NOT to issue any type of noise abatement rules or regulations mainly due to the fact they did not want to be in violation of the "right to farm" laws. These laws protect the farmers from city folk who move out the country and then want to impose the city rules in the country. I liked the reaction of the dairy farmer and his timing of cleaning out the barn! yeah, go ahead...tell me to be quiet? A farmer up the road kept using a bunch of Air Cannons to scare off the "crows" from his apple orchard! bam, bam, bam, every 10 to 15 minutes, sun up to sun down.
You like the peace and quiet of the country now....city boy?? I do believe they moved after the farmer proved his point. As long as it is quiet at dusk till dawn, this is a great place to live. Except when the dairy mucks out the barn....yuck...it smells like a farm! And if you're a farmer....it smells like home, or your job!

Noise laws
TD bandit
Please do NOT roll over on this
There are very few noise abatement laws that are enforceable during waking hours.
We retired, like a few here, to a rural community with 2.5 acres and had one hell of a time trying to convince folks that their after hours noise and LIGHT was screwing with our desire for peace and quite and star gazing.
Directly to my north property line was a lady who ran a puppy mill and would dispose off the diseased dead puppies on a trash pile that got burned...stench to beat all hell! And all night barking too! We took ten years of this until she was murdered by her boyfriend--- then the state (us taxpayers) ended up clearing out 179 animals off of 1.75 acres and the dirt condemned by EPA for Parvo virus contamination...eventually we got the county to create reasonable ordinances to prevent this crap.
I ended up getting more involved in county politics that I ever wanted...
Point really is....Just look up and read your city, county, and any home owners association rules and ordinances
AND, if they are too over bearing, try hard to get them changed to reasonable levels so the constitutional intent is not infringed
Please read this from an Australian who had a clue about the effects of some things we OLD curmudgeons did and not fully think about the effect
http://dkd.net/clmodels/wrong.html
some ecerpts for thos not willing to read the entire discussion
"Well what happened. As stated before the only way we could get to the site to fly was by push bike, which limited distance so the sites ovals etc were all in the suburbs, of course these models made a noise so the old lady complained and the Councils banned the activity.
Youth have now replaced this activity with the skate board, may take skill to ride but no construction or life skills, does not damage when crashed, is purchased (or stolen) ready to ride. And as we all know a lot more nuisance than the model aircraft ever was.
Result is.
Old lady who complained has long since deceased
Her Grandson has No skills, No job, No future and extremely likely to turn to crime.
How did this happen.
Small minded Councillors with no vision satisfied the old ladies complaint, kept her vote and put her grandson on the street."
Out there in the sticks we accept the weed eaters, chain saws, beeep beep beep of backing skid steer spreading dirt, thumpa thumpa of a 600 gizzilion watt stereo, and even my 32,000 RPM engines testing.... But somehow USUALLY around 10 PM we get back to just cicadas and crickets with the odd coyote or dog barking in the distance
Rational noise rules are reasonable...folks who demand mountain top quiet 24/7 are not rational

Oh I don't plan on folding up on this lol.
I've been talking to others about these people and i'm not the only one that they have hit and they have not won any friends in my close nit little community including the county.
We have this little tradition to try and welcome new folks to our community and this usually involves the closest neighbor to them bring over a cake or something, well to make a long story short, they ran the neighbor off so that was a major strike one there.
They are just mean people. I also checked the laws for my area and there is no noise ordnance. So I called the county and told them about the indecent and they just laughed and told me not to worry about it. So I'm going to continue lol In fact I'm gonna mount up my Rossi speed .15 which is loud as h*** and see how they like that.

Bandit,
I wish you the best of luck. From what you just said it sounds like it isn't broken so your new neighbors shouldn't try to fix it.
