Yep. All burnt open. Must have run 60% nitro with 12% oil.

The crank COULD be bushed if you have a lathe and the gumption. The .051's are criminal. At least seeing that many broken connecting rods sure feels criminal.

Re: Don't buy Cox engine lots.........
Thanks for the heads up! I do not think we should bash the members of the NMMTPA, as the seller indicated he received this " junk yard lot" from a family that used to particapate in this sport. Listed as : Item condition:Used
“Nice Used Original NMMPTA Cox Powered .049 / .051 competition Pulling tractor Micro-Mini ENGINE JUNK ” ... Read more....
I looked and looked and decided that I'd be better off buying the parts I want / need from one of our sponsors, rather than hope the junk shown would be what I wanted, unfortunatly you found out that his junk is, junk. Sorry.
BTW, what is wrong with the TD crankcase? Where do I look to see the defect? Thanks.

I apologize for hijacking this thread, but would like to ask what is wrong with the crankcase other than missing plastic.

There looked to be a dimple on the case where a rod attempted to poke through.

Cox parts
Jason_WI wrote:from NMMTPA members.
This concludes today's lesson.
Jason: If you need some TD or Medallion parts PM me. I still have a few pieces including my Ghost Medallion, (.051 unmarked piston), I can look them up and SEND PICTURES FIRST if you are interested. I don't have time for too many nitro projects any longer. the first being the rebuilding of my Cox Shrike. I'm still having trouble cleaning off the gunk, mostly black gunk, out of the creases. The engine was in as-new condition.

HD,
I have enough TD's. Just was hoping some parts were good to use but most were bad including the crankcase.

Re: Don't buy Cox engine lots.........
That happens sometimes. My latest lot was not from tractor folks but from a fellow model airplane hobbyist. He offers me an NIB Queen Bee, a Babe Bee in the box, "once test fitted in an airplane, can't remember if it's ever run" plus "some new parts". He sends a (blurry) picture with some Cox plastic bags, one had "overhaul kit" printed on it.
I agree to the slightly high price, pay the postage, get the package and what do I find?
The overhaul kit bag is torn open, nothing in it. Well, in the other intact bags there are a needle valve, a glow head and a hex snap starter set. OK, fine. Then I take a look at the Babe, oh crud, it has the mounting lugs drilled out to make 3mm bolts fit (about 1/8"). If this is done, there is not enough material left for a strong enough lug. So one of the lugs is missing. This is the second Babe I run into with this problem. Well, I can get a new plastic tank backplate for it, so the engine is salvageable. And it seems that it hasn't been run a lot, so it should make a nice runner.
Among the other parts there were a very good sure start cylinder and piston, a crankcase assembly and a new black horseshoe backplate with a huge venturi and a circlip, a Sure Start I suppose?
Well, at least the Queen Bee was NIB, complete with a manual and wrenches. The other stuff is mostly useable if not collectible, so it was not a total rip-off like Jason's purchase. I just paid maybe €30 more than I should have. I think I'll use the Babe Bee box to display my "original" Babe that I purchased new in around 1982. And maybe, just maybe, the Queen Bee will get a diesel head someday

Just type NMMTPA in google search.
I could tell you what it is, but you really gotta see for yourself.

Re: Don't buy Cox engine lots.........
You've only got to watch the full size guys at work to know that preserving their machinery is the last thing on their mind. I would think that when it comes down to winning, they use everything they can to do the job, even if it means potentially sacrificing their engines. Extra nitro and less oil means more RPM, but clearly the great batch of burned out heads and busted rods show that they're willing to forego relaiability. It's about time they started to use cheap disposible Chinese engines rather than irreplaceable Tee Dees.
Rod.

Full size pullers are hard on engines too. One less Rolls Royce Griffon in the world.

Re: Don't buy Cox engine lots.........
Sorry Jason.. What's wrong with people? Selling useless engine parts is rotten. Why not just throw them away.. or offer them for recycling? I couldn't live with myself even giving someone a burnt-out glow-head.. unless they needed one to try a conversion to standard plugs.. or something. Broken connecting rods? Who sells/"throws-in" broken connecting rods on a deal?

I mean, while it's spectacular, how irresponsible is it to destroy an irreplacible Rolls Royce Griffon? These guys have rocks in their heads (and far too much money to burn).

Re: Don't buy Cox engine lots.........
A little off topic, but kind of in order. After seeing this thread, learning the new-to-me acronym, seeing the video, while en route to the rc fun fly today (that got rained out a couple hours in) I saw a sigh for a tractor pull. Guess where I am going tomorrow, after not seeing one in 25 years?
