Re: Cox Sky Rally Kyosho Cox 049 -> It goes on
Hello everybody,
i didn't finished it yet
I had so much other stuff to do and now i will have to search the plane first
Maybe this winter i can finish it up. I also need a muffler with a long pipe, so that the does not paint the whole plane with oil.
Oh. The forum had cropped the picture. Every one who want it with readably numbers -> send me a PN with your email Adress.

I see, you moved to other most interesting projects...But will be aware of progress.
Well that´s ok, if you decide to let this plane go, I would like to be the first buyer.....
Thanks

I think we all end up doing that. At least *I* do that a lot. Get one project going, then get sidetracked with something else. Then something else...

Re: Cox Sky Rally Kyosho Cox 049 -> It goes on
This Graupner Sky Rally was my first and last motorized toy and I loved it. A very long time ago... I had it at least 6 months; just to watch and let the engine run. On the day I decided to fly, I had an argument with gravity and the Sky Rally crashed instantly. 30 years later I had some emotional moments and started looking out for this R/C plane and guess what, meanwhile I own 3 new sets. Yes, after 30 years, people still have them unopened stored somewhere. Thanks to eBay. No, they are of course not for sale. Not yet...
Someone in this thread asked for a manual. Just send a private message and I will send back a scan copy. No problem.
Or can I upload this pdf in this forum?
Thanks a lot for all these stories, it is really enjoying to read in this forum.

Got One NIB!
Hello fellows!
I hope you’re doing well.
I got a NIB Sky Rally that just showed up on eBay. I never saw that model before and was fascinated by it.
The auction starting bid was $550.00. I contacted the seller if he was up to accept an offer in order to avoid the bidding war and the risk of loosing it. We settled at $700.00 . Well, my consolation is that I’ll have it .
It will be my Xmas present. I will let you know how it goes. I probably will start a new topic. If I do, I’ll place a link here.
Thanks,
David

Re: Cox Sky Rally Kyosho Cox 049 -> It goes on
They went a little longer as the box has 1985 printed on it.
Here’s a link of a thread someone that got one for 100.00 in 2018. A sale of $250.00 is also mentioned.
https://www.coxengineforum.com/t11554-kyosho-cox-sky-rally-find
I found in a site the current estimated model value is from a few hundred’s up to $600.00.
At this moment, there’s only one available in the market and is being sold for $1,000.00

Welcome to the Forum, David!
I had one of those in the day. When I moved from South Carolina to Oregon, I gave it to the owner of the local hobby shop because he asked if he could hang it up in his window. I have started on making my own replica of one, but I have very little progress. I have the tubing and wing/tail group dimensions from our fellow CEF member over in Germany, Bnitram, but they're in metric. He was very generous with his information, but I don't have many dimensions for much of the other stuff, so I may be asking you for more info if you can spare it. Since you still have the parts new in the package, maybe it will be easier for you to take pictures of the new parts with a ruler next to them before assembly. Please? I have the wing and tail surfaces built, but not much more.

Hello, and thanks for the welcome.
No problem. I can do that. It has been shipped and it should arrive in a week or so.

Never mind...this will do.
LOL, now I feel like a donkey (there isn’t an emoji for donkey).
J/k
Do you really think it was an insane cost for this model?
I’m curious to know what you would consider an ok value. No offense taken, BTW.

Re: Cox Sky Rally Kyosho Cox 049 -> It goes on
Hi all,
I’m battling in my mind whether to use a Cox/Sanwa Cadet 8220 Radio Control System to have the sky rally as it would had in the past or use a modern radio control system.
Your opinions will be appreciated.

If I were to leave it as a display, I would keep it as original as I could for time/period.
But If I were going to fly it, I would be all about trying to give myself every chance I could to keep it in one piece.
If It would not physically alter anything on the original air frame, I would mount the more modern radio gear.
I may even be tempted to go electric to protect it from the engine and oil grime.
No matter what way you go..
Its will be cool

If you're going to fly it, I'd use a modern radio setup. In fact, I'd also use one of the modern receivers with the built in 3-axis gyro, as I seem to remember that mine wasn't the most stable craft I'd ever flown.

Re: Cox Sky Rally Kyosho Cox 049 -> It goes on
You will have to put all the luck on your side use a new controller I suggest a spectrum me also I use micro reciver with fully programmable integrated stabilization system. As3x Systems with as3x do not like vibrations Very important to properly balance the propeller In this case of vibration it is possible to turn it off
