.049 muffler of unknown origin?
Yo, I scored this on the bay last week, using
the "make offer" feature. New to me, but it
worked pretty well.

Anyway, I've seen this muffler before, but I have no idea where.???

Bob,
You have my attention, but the link takes me to a skycopter .020
Am I missing something?

The previous photo was the sellers. I popped the unknown on a case and shot this.
The top ring was there too.

Just a shot in the dark, could it be this from a Dragonfly?

Re: .049 muffler of unknown origin?
Nope, it's not a throttle/muffler Doug. It looks similar to a standard Cox
muffler, but the bore with the sliding spring-metal ring sits higher on the
cylinder. Actually above the exhaust ports.
I'll try to get better photos of it tomorrow.
Thanks for the quick response.

Re: .049 muffler of unknown origin?
Could it be a custom piece to clear a cowl? Top end looks stock, bottom looks home made. Very well done though.

Re: .049 muffler of unknown origin?
This muffler was used on the earlier (60s) Cox cars. I'm trying to remember what models that was though, maybe the Chaparral?

The Cox Chaparral QZ would make sense, you need a longer neck to get by the axle
I can't find any paperwork from that car

You can see the muffler on this QZ Corvette Sting-Ray.
Re: .049 muffler of unknown origin?
Oh boy, thanks Jacob. That's what I was
looking for. Couldn't remember where I saw it.
Been scouring the net for days now.
There are indentations on the lower end of the
muffler for the axle to clear. Makes sense now.
I'll hang it on an engine, and see if the exhaust
ports sitting lower in it, make it quieter than the
usual mufflers. I have a nice #8 or #0 cylinder(no spi)
to try it on.
Thanks again, Jacob.
