What's your favorite deli meat?
Time for a change of pace...
My favorite is hard Salami. I like it because the good stuff melts in your mouth. It's surely going to kill me, but hey life is short anyway!
Other good ones are prosciutto, hot capicolo, corned beef or pastrami. Some of the best samdwiches I have ever eaten were from roadside gas stations in Italy. Salami and Brie in a crusty roll. Heaven...
So what's your favorite?

All of it, Salami, Pastrami, and all the ones I can't remember the names. Least would be bologna, and I like it. If I'm ever up for a last meal before execution it'll be between a Cold Italian sub and a modified(Provolone) Philly Cheese Steak. Or maybe fried fresh Flounder, but they'd botch it.

I gave up fries some time ago.

Re: What's your favorite deli meat?
I'm good for an average pound/week of Russer "Wonderbar" German Balogna. I buy 2 (separate) lbs. at a time and freeze one. I do NOT like any other brand. I eat it by the slice(s).. "cold".. right out of the fridge (usually 3 or 4 at a time) as a snack. I don't "fry" it.. and when I "seldom" make a sandwich with it; I'll make two.. on plain white bread (3 slices of Balogna each) with 2 slices each of "Land O Lakes" brand 4-cheese Italian cheese slices, Hellman's light mayo and yellow mustard.
If you haven't already; I would "insist" on trying the L.O.L. 4-cheese Italian slices if they have it at your deli. If you like cheese... you'll LOVE this kind!
There will be a triple-funeral for Ron, Rusty and I... and we'll all be sporting Tee Dee .010 tie-tacks as we're laid-out in our balsa-wood lined coffins! Fresh assorted deli-meats and cheese will be served as h'orderves in our memory.

Re: What's your favorite deli meat?
It's all good stuff, but my top two would definitely be good quality salami and thinly sliced corned beef.

I don't know how I would ever pick just one. Last night I stopped by the deli betweeen jobs for a little dinner. I had the Italian with pepperoni, hard salami, and hot capicolo, all toasted with melted provolone. Ho Man! Is it lunch time yet?

It is a very, very hot curry - requires at least six pints of beer to help wash it down and a couple more to finish with!

Re: What's your favorite deli meat?
Wow! Whats not to like! Corned beef, pastrami, salami, thin sliced rare roast beef. Thirty years ago there were many Jewish deli, restaurants around that were a real treat for me.
The pickles, cole slaw, pastries and meat great stuff. Now they are all gone, even the first one Wolfies on Mia. Beach closed in the last few years. My cardiologist is bound and determined to keep my BP and cholesterol down no matter how many pills it takes, she's on my short list to get fired!

Lebanon bologna for me and not the sweet version. Put that on rye bread with some swiss and spicy mustard

The hottest thing I ever had was the Four Horseman Hamburger... Yes, I finished it
Some interesting variety in this thread.
The rillette makes salami sound like health food! I would like to try it one day.

Re: What's your favorite deli meat?
My choice was largely influenced by the draft beer and the atmoshere of my favorite tavern where the Pilly Cheesteak Sandwich has no equal. It comes with a delicious and generous green sald to.
The senational view of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge helps too.

A good Philly steak & cheese is delicious... but in my opinion the "bread" is the deal-breaker. I like a large fresh "lightly-toasted" torpedo roll!!! One or two pepperoncini's on the side and a pint of draught Samuel Adams Boston Lager. OK.... now I'm hungry!
Re: What's your favorite deli meat?
Roddie:
A REALLY good Philly Cheesesteak is difficult to build at home. How often to you have swirled ryebreal, peppers, saurkrault, onions on hand let alone Thousand Island dressingand tavern-style sliced pickles on-hand?
It's also hard for me to imagine a "Philly" without draft beer.
Nope. give me the "real deal" or just boring bologna sandwich.

Been there and done it. Dehli, Hyderabad, Ghandinigar, Jaipur, Calcutta, Goa, Bangalore and Bombay.
All have regional varieties and hot spicy food. However, care is required in India.
Our Western stomachs and digestion systems cannot always cope! Dire consequences can follow!

Ian, in only 5 trips I've been to all on your list except Ghandinigar and Goa.
Agree 100% about the perils of adventurous eating.
I credit downing a sweet lassi or two, for saving me more than once.

How about Head Cheese?
I just finished eating some. Along with Pickled Herring, smoked sausage, gouda cheese and a crusty roll.
Yeah I am away from home so nobody to get onto me!

Re: What's your favorite deli meat?
Been working up a pretty good toasted Pastrami and smoked bacon, white cheeze on swirled rye schmeared with,,the all american staple on one side and a really good lite chipotle bbq sauce with bits of cilantro in there. A little back kick with the chipotle.

Re: What's your favorite deli meat?
Pickled herring, I guess that resembles smoked kippers. I love those. I used to peel open a can and eat it on saltines. I guess that's the redneck way to eat it, but it's good. You might need a shower when you're through. Or at least wash up and brush your teeth before you try to kiss your cutie.Cribbs74 wrote:How about Head Cheese?
