"290" needle

"290" needle
Last week I received the Spook needle and retainer. The needle fits well in the metal back plate. But how to mount the retainer? Is it to prevent air leaks and to make sure that the needle doesn't turn by itself? It's just out of interest because if it's that, a piece of silicon tubing will do perfectly. Also, the needle doesn't end in a point. It's clearly machined flat.

It does the job of a piece of silicon tubing, but better as you can also use the spring at the same time.
The larger end goes onto the backplate.

Thanks Kris, now I see it, The end with the collar has a larger diameter.
