Got my old Medallion running
I was recently given a Medallion .049. It had a single port #2 cylinder that the piston wouldn't cycle all the way through. Some of the chrome was missing too, to I tossed all that and took it all apart and soaked it in alcohol for a few days. Starting with the crankcase I took each part out one by one and cleaned it up. Had to use PB Blaster to get the threads and all the nooks and crannies clean but slowly it began to shine. The bore in the crank was even clogged with crud but it all came out.
So then I oiled it up and assembled it. I wasn't sure how tight the carb retaining collett should be, but it's tight enough for plastic. I had a dual port cylinder I had just finished deburring (that's yours MFdude) and found a piston with a tight fit. I put a regular head on it, new NV, mounted it on the test block and fired it up. That was really a surprize. The thing sounds like a Black Widow on major steroids. I had to crank it a few turns rich just to calm it down and let it run in for the rest of the tank. I filled the 3/8 oz tank and ran it again at full speed and it's a thing of beauty. No sputters or pops and spits, just smooth high RPM. I had a 5.5x3 prop on it.
MF, your cylinder lives to fly another day. I'll get it back to you as soon as we can meet up.
And I am the proud father of a brand new-again Medallion.
Btw, are Medallions supposed to use Tee Dee high comp heads or just regular heads?

Re: Got my old Medallion running
it would depend on how you want to use/run it. For a 6x3-4 prop i'd use a regular head, to try and get more rpm w/ a smaller diameter prop I'd go Hi-comp, but with the small intake I don't know if you'd see a big jump.

Rusty any chance of a video?
Medallions are an engine I have never used or even seen in the flesh!

Sure, it's still on the test block, I'll take the camera and give it a spin this morning.

My stock Medallion has a single bypass port and a regular glow head.

They are a nice enhine and can easily be improved with TD parts or spi set-ups.
