Some Days ARE Diamonds !!! Empty Some Days ARE Diamonds !!!

Feel like I've been a reasonably Good Boy for a while, and so, decided to treat myself to one of these:

Some Days ARE Diamonds !!! 112

The early MARK I Kadet, and the later Senior Kadets were ALWAYS my favorite training and working planes, and now that they're putting the third wheel in the right place, I decided to go with it!  Tailwinds R/C Hobby Center says it'll be here before long, and so I decided to go pro-active and have a healthy engine waiting for it's arrival.

For a LONG time, this abused and bedraggled O.S. .60 has been clunking around in a box of engines I got at a Rummage Sale a couple wives ago.  There were originally three of them in the deal and, as is my custom, I sold the nicer ones and kept the Rat Dog of the bunch.

Figuring it to be a good fit for a plane calling for a .40 to a .53 Two-Stroker, I pulled it from it's tomb, did what I call my Standard Restoration (cleaned the top layer of crap off the thing), employed my superior machining skills to create a muffler clamp, and bolted it up to the stand.  Turns out, it needed an O-Ring under the carb...they don't run worth a crap with the carb jiggling around...along with a general tightening-up of most of it's screws.

Once again, cranking up The Beast, I was rewarded with a pretty good run...getting a better idle as I figured out which way to turn the bleed-air screw on the old O.S. Carb.

Some Days ARE Diamonds !!! 1_43

Some Days ARE Diamonds !!! 4_33

So, engine wise, the Skunk Works is ready for it's new arrival !!!

That is so cool. I have been wanting a small version for a long time, but it's always been back burnered. I want to see pictures of this one going together. It's a much more interesting structure than anything I've ever built. Looking forward to watching.

Thanks Roddie...and Mrs. Roddie !! I AM looking forward to getting the Kadet...it may be a bit weird...launching a plane that rolls across the ground instead of being hand-chucked into the air !

Thanks Ron!!  I'm hoping it'll haul it up and out of the front yard with room to spare.  Gonna swing by Tailwinds and pick up some 10% fuel that was made in this decade (wasn't gonna give it any of my Sig Champion 10%!), and got some fat tires set aside for the Kadet.

Gonna christen it Mud Dabber II........

Really nice plane Kim. My son just bought a Sig Rascal, seem to be put together really well. I'm sure you will love it.

They are nice planes. I have a kit built Kadet Senior. Lots of cutting and gluing to build one of these. I want to put my open rocker OS 60 4 stroke in it someday.

Pretty Cool Kim, I bet you'll get some nice videos with it!

I love the Kadet series planes, the flat bottom high lift wing is perfect for low and slow! My first Kadet was the Kadet Jr. with a Enya .29, used that engine in my Kadet Mk. I, then a TT.40, a Fox .50 and finally a O.S. .32, plane is still going after thirty years with second wind and second fuselage.

And here's my kit bashed Kadet Sr. basicly used the kit for the ribs, firewall and balsa to build my own, powered it with a old K&B .61, seemed to pull it surprisingly well!

OH Yeah!

GOT to love these things!!  Once I got Mud Dabber all trimmed and set up, it rarely, if ever..."Just Flew"...it was always on a mission of some sort.  It introduced a BUNCH of people to R/C with the Trainer Cord System I used, and as I mentioned in another thread, towed a lot of flags and banners with the Robart Bomb Release I bolted to it's belly.

The Bomb Release and it's orange bombs got me yelled at a couple of times by my buds, as I had a fondness of taking Mud Dabber up to the stratosphere, and tracking a little ways upwind before releasing it's nearly invisible payload.  I thought I was getting pretty good at hitting the ramp, but under threat of physical violence, ultimately scheduled my practice sessions to times when I had the place all to myself.  Some guys just got no appreciation of atmospheric research...

Mud Dabber II will be packing at least one bomb release, along with a stick-glider launching stooge, and an air horn that was previously hauled around by my faithful Lazy Bee. There's also those high-powered LED lights I got stuck back...for those early evening flights to spook the yuppies over in yonder subdivision...

Beautiful planes Mark !!!! (just now got to see them on the airport's WiFi) The kit-bashed Kadet looks a lot like a Rearwin Sportster !!!

Great work !
