Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
What a waste to empty the can! people dump the can and keep the contents, but old fuel need to be dump the fuel and keep the can , just for safety purpose.
for business - point of view, yes , its the only way to ship it by empty it. but for everyone in this forums , I bet no one willing to see it happened ( but no choice ).
I and my friends imported China fuel to our country about 8 years ago, we talk to our local logistic company and they arrange to ship together with others hazardous goods via sea freight in 20ft container with low price. Thats for a whole batch but if shipping only one can or two , seems its not possible then.
Maybe Bernie can keep some unopened kits. , and when there's any annual flying events or gathering nearby, people will buy it.
To Bernie:
Any walk-in customer at your place ?

It does seem to be a great waste. Most places will ship in quarts with no hazmat charge. I think it was Sig who would ship up to three or four separate quarts with no hazmat. I wonder if THEY would give me a hard time coming across the border with a pallet of fuel.

Only 5% of our sales are to our own country, no customers in our little town of 12,000 and no walk-ins (don't want any as we are not set up for this).
The closest flying event would be over 300km away and I have never seen anyone fly a Cox engine in the last decade. It is less expensive for me to buy fuel at the next local store (300KM away when I happen to travel through that town) than to have the kits shipped to me with the fuel in the cans.
One has to realize that it is more cost effective to have our vendor dump the fuel as opposed to selling it. Keep in mind that the kits are coming from 2,000 km away lol.

We will post once we have the kits and it is not necessary to pre-order as there will be plenty to go around. We anticipate that it will take aprx. 2 years to sell all the kits.
Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
Hey Bernie I guess we all can understand the business side of it. But damn...do you know why many of us hate to see the fuel dumped?..... Cox pint can fuel had it's own distinctive smell. As kids we never knew about anything but how it burned in a cut, smelled good, and always seemed to make the engine run.....
This all makes me remember my first Pint can of Missile Mist..... for that weekend I was a God at the school yard until it was all used up
Ain't nostalgia something!

Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
Well, sniffing the empty can I have here still packs lots of punch and brings back the memories lol.
Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
We had been dealing with two vendors, 1,000 miles apart, that each had about 100 for sale.
Seems as if one was trying to sell the inventory of the other lol.
Oh well, about 95 kits it is in total with the first 32 hopefully here early next week.

Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
We managed to get a limited # of the kits shipped and they are now available here:

Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
If the fuel's origin was the US and they are in Canada, I think different rules apply... you may want to check on that.
Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
The problem is not laws. It is simply that Canada Post refuses to transport anything that is considered "hazardous". One must then use the couriers, such as FedEx and they charge something like a $50 surcharge per Kilo.
Technically, we could ship with Canada Post and just not declare the contents but why? It bumps the weight into the 1KG class, upping shipping by another $8 to US and $20 overseas, meaning someone would pay $8 or $20 more for a can of fuel that may well be stale. On top of that, if we get caught, we may have our CP privileges suspended.
We had the cans shipped here full (yes, mislabelled lol) and we drained the cans yesterday, saving the fuel for me to try out once the snow is gone. I suspect it's stale anyhow.

Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
Just my opinion, but I think your too high on the price. I guess that depends if your going for collectors or someone who wants to use it. I would think it would be in the $30-$40 range.
Re: Value of Cox fuel cans?
The "real" price is actually $39.95 but there is a $10 surcharge included for increased shipping costs (because of the weight).
We only charge $5.95 to US and $7.95 Int'l but actual shipping cost is $11 to US and $20 to Int'l. Based on a theoretical sales model of 50% US and 50% Int'l, we basically break even. Keep in mind that we only receive 86% of the shipping cost paid on eBay and only 96% of the shipping cost paid off-eBay, and the shipping boxes cost $1/each.
Technically, we could list for $39 and increase shipping cost but we would have to program an additional shipping preset into our stores and re-write our shipping terms; potentially tripping up our buyers who have gotten used to our low, flat-fee, shipping cost they have enjoyed for years.

Just to let you know that our stock is down to 3 units until we can get another shipment from the vendor; which could be months as he is out of country.
We have also reduced the price by $10 to $39.95 and upped the shipping cost from $5.95 to $9.95 for USA.

Ever hear of the "Rum Runners" here in the US during Prohibition in the Twenties? Penty of booze was brought in from Canada to the US.
Now you could set-up a "Nitro Express" ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,!
