Fine-line ink pens

Fine-line ink pens
Anyone inking drawings/plans.. may be interested in trying this pen. It's "Ultra-fine" tip is .38mm. I am used to writing in very small print, and this pen is great for that too. It's a Black Pilot G2 Premium Gel Roller #31271 (2-pack)

I'm never without a pen in my top pocket. For general utility writing I carry a Staples click pen with a chrome top and rubber grip with a medium fine ball point. I do not have a fine point pen other than a standard old type Bic with the clear barrel. I do like them, but they aren't convenient to carry in a shirt pocket. The only thing worse for me than leaving home without my pen is leaving without my knife or phone.

I'm right with you Rusty... I carry a black med. point "round-stick" with pull-off cap in my pants pocket always.. My wallet, pen, keys, and phone.. are standard travel items.

LOVE drawing instruments! Drafting was about the only High School class I actually enjoyed (had a fantastic teacher which ALSO helped), and I still have my Old-School compass and pen sets!
These ARE great pens, though the uni-ball vision micro is right on their heels !
The pilot "Razor Point" was/is still great, but you NEVER want to lend that sucker out, or it will come back with it's tiny felt point bent 90 degrees. Durn Neanderthals...
Though I haven't used it in a long time, my "Cadillac Pen" has always been a Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph drafting pen. You can put racing stripes on a flea with that dude !!
My "Packing Pen" is a Uni-Ball regular fine-tip...good for fuel tickets, carbon papers, and the occasional doodle...

Me too Kim. I wish I had paid more attention in Industrial Arts while in High School.. I was into being a Musician... period. I feel if I had.. I'd have gotten into design as a possible career path. I sucked at Mathematics though... and I find that I use applied math calculations now.. more than most people do... go figure...
Here's some of the stuff I use, when designing models. CAD is cool.. but there's nothing like drawing-up a design old-school... The old drafting set was my Grandfather's. The blue and white pencils are Schwan/Stabilo's.. and are handy for marking glossy/hard surfaces.
A "Light-Table" is on my list of things to build. A 36" x 48" angled desk-top unit with a white translucent acrylic top and fluorescent backlighting.

I sold my son's old 18 x 24 light table at our yard sale last month. It was homemade with 5 bulbs and a lexan top. I wanted it the week after we sold it for $3 bucks when I was designing my Mustang.

Re: Fine-line ink pens
Great Stuff. I've still got a drawing board and T square stuffed away somewhere. I remember when our school got "Drafting Machines" for each desk...those long geared arms that held a graduated guide in the same position anywhere you moved it on the board. I just figured it COULDN'T get any better !!!!
Yeah, LOTS of things we could've done differently...not convinced that the total sum would necessarily be "better" though. My life has been one rolling hoot, in spite of the fact that I NEVER CAME CLOSE to understanding ANYTHING about calculus !!!

Roddie-Great pens! I could us those when marking up small drawings, as-builds and other notes. Sometimes there's more info than can be put in a small area. Or making detailed 3D/iso drawings.

Re: Fine-line ink pens
Roddie's thread is gonna make me try to drag out my drawing board and T square (a physically dangerous endeavor considering the great pile of gear it's probably under!), and try to draw some lines!
In the event of my demise, I'm bequeathing all my Worldly Model Airplane Junk to Mark and Jacob, who shall then be responsible for it's distribution to interested parties here ! You may have to wrestle my pop-up relatives for the weapons, but I'll be rooting for you !
Yeah Duke, this time of year makes me think and wonder about the ones who've been in my life, short or long-term. The kissing girls are part of a crew of incredibly hard working servers at my favorite restaurant, who decided to give an old guy a great Christmas gift.
The girl on the bike is my first wife back when she was still my girlfriend. She was beautiful, and I was bullet-proof ! Don't know if she's still beautiful, but I'm sure as Hell not bullet-proof anymore !

Drawing has always been a major part of the hobby for me and almost everything I build is from a drawing rather than plans. Some are complete; some just witness marks on a series of parallel lines. Either way, it has always been a big part of the enjoyment of the hobby. It's always hard to determine what part of a hobby appeals the most, but in thinking about it this morning, I guess I would have to say:
1. The people I've met and associate with -- modelers are almost always easy going, generous to a fault and a really friendly bunch of folks
2. Building
3. Drawing
4. Engine work
5. Flying

How similar, yet different our favorites are. For me it's:
1. The people I've met and associate with -- modelers are almost always easy going, generous to a fault and a really friendly bunch of folks (meeting other modelers is new to me in the past couple of years. I'm sure glad I didn't miss it altogether)
2. Flying
3. Engine work (for me, it's cleaning and rebuilding, minor tuning, nothing fancy)
4. Drawing (I have great architectural and artistic genes, but don't use it nearly enough)
5. Building (I love building, want to get better at it, but get in the doghouse from the time spent)

Re: Fine-line ink pens
Nice kits. My kit from college looks pretty similar. I was (un)fortunate enough to be the LAST class to get manual drawing, so I didn't get good CAD instruction. However between high school drafting, and college level drafting I can take things through different views, expand, reduce, the whole works...takes time and care.
I have also done full size blow ups using register tape rolls as straight edges. That's kinda fun!

Re: Fine-line ink pens
Reviving an old thread, I know. But I've lately been taken with drawing on parts with a Pilot Precise V5RT roller ball pen. I love fountain pens, and write with them for everything that doesn't need pressure applied, like checks or such. But, no way am I going to draw on balsa or ply with a good fountain pen. But, I don't want to have to give up the fountain pen ink, so I've started looking around for inexpensive roller balls. The one I found that I like is the V5RT. Relatively inexpensive, and gives a nice, fine line. And the ink doesn't feather into the wood either, as I was afraid it would. Bought them in a 3-pack for about seven bucks. I just wish I could refill the ink cartridges with my favorite fountain pen ink.
