Is the wing covered? Many times, I've blocked the wing on my building table using weights the opposite of what the wing is twisted. This usually requires you to almost twist it twice as much the opposing direction. You could mist the wing with a sprayer using water and let sit 24 hrs. Personally, I would break the glue joints and reglue. If the wing is already covered, what is it covered with? If iron on covering was used the wing could be corrected by twisting the opposing direction . Wrinkles will appear in the covering and shrinking them using a heat gun or iron will fix the problem. Always sight your leading and trailing edges afterwards checking for straight. Don't release the wing until it cools off which could take a min or two. If dope was used, the same method can be used but use caution as the heat can and will blister the dope. It can be twisted however. Ken

Unglue and reglue is best...but not all glues tolerate this.

If the covering is causing the twist you can try re-shrinking it to pull the twist out. Dope even shrinks with heat for this.

For bare sticks try steaming and straightening.  Make sure to let it dry at least a week fastened to a strong back or weighted to a flat surface to keep it straight.

Measures to correct can vary as indicated by the previous posters.

Paper covering: I've found the steaming the wing opposite the twist then holding or pinning in the position while it dries works well.  Save the extreme measures as secondary approaches should this prove not successful.

Synthetic covering:  Using a heat gun can allow the wing to be adjusted into the correct position.  Hold it there as the covering cools.

it s not covered and the warp is why from looking at it again I think gluing the trailing edge cover pieces on caused this I have built many a wing w/out a jig but had a little trouble cutting the pieces at the angle they needed to be so I mite have pulled it myself when glueing ca was my choice of glue . I think break and /reglue for now . thanks guys

Probably good idea to re-glue and with half-hour expoxy so it soaks into the balsa TE segments before setting. A good bond is critical at that juncture. (I very rarely use CA on anything structural)

On my BRM I used expoxy and well as muslin fabric to join the two pieces. It's held up well for over fifty flights powered by a healthy TD .051. It's a ROCKET!

If it's only 1/8" then if it were me I would cover it then twist it out with heat afterwards. Assuming you are using a monokote type covering...

+1 on that.
1/8" should be pretty easy to fix while covering, especially if using heat shrink like Monokote or Ultracote.

Happy warped baby ring wing

Post  HOUDINI2 Sun Oct 13, 2013 10:28 pm

I build on glass so my wings all come out straight.
So in answer to your question, since you have not yet covered it I would figure out where the wing is causing the problem and break those joints and re glue them again, if not it could possibly be able to correct after you cover it but I like a wing that is correct before I cover it.
