rc helicopters
I'm not sure if this is the right place to talk about rc helicopters but im thinking about getting into flying them and im not sure which one to get. the only heli I have flown before is my blade msr and I think im ready to start flying collective pitch ones. I think I have found a good one and its called the blade mCP X 2. do any of you guys know if it is a good one for me?

Re: rc helicopters
Hi if you like helies try getting into quads they are much more easy to fly and hover in place 50 times better..
nano qx just came out and supposed to be pretty good.
I used to ne into helies now I have like 5 quads and will never go back to helies again!

Re: rc helicopters
This one is almost in the shops in the UK. Much bigger, will carry a camera and find its own way home!

Re: rc helicopters
To answer the original question, yes, the Mcp X is a good step up from the MSR. Keep in mind the Mcp is flybarless which will make it much more agile with less of the self-corrective habits of the MSR.
Generally, the larger the helicopter the easier it is to fly. So going with one of E'flite's larger models would be a good choice as well. Remember, it's always best to have an experienced pilot assist you and help you get started.

Re: rc helicopters
I went from the MSR to the Nano CPx
and then to the 130x
I am still rubbish with both but getting better. Haven't bust them yet - a few close calls - but can loop the loop and fly upside down. Not very well but practise will be perfect.

I find that I just cannot get into quads/quints/sexts/tri's or any combination thereof. To me a heli looks like a heli. A quad, regardless of size, just looks like a toy. There's nothing in real life that I've ever seen that it compares to. I fly things because they look like models of full size things to an extent. But, that's just me. I know there's a huge fan base for quads that's growing daily. And that's good. I'm glad to see that online shops are selling components so people can build their own. Any aspect of the hobby that's growing or maintaining helps all of us. It keeps the shops alive.
As for helis, the advice to go bigger is good. I have helis ranging from the small MCX's up through .30 size glow. The bigger ones are more stable. I'd say if you want to get into helis, and you know you're going to stick with it for a while, find a used .30 size heli. With people shifting to electric everything, you should find a couple of good deals on a heli with spares. But, that's just my thoughts on it.

Re: rc helicopters
Coming from experience, helicopters are expensive. The Blade mSR is a nice little hell and easy to fly, however the mCPx is a totally different beast. I had one and sold it and my SR, been trying to fly them since the BCP and they are hard! I gave up... I may get a nanoCP one of these days as they are suppose to be nearly indestructible like the mSR.
Re: rc helicopters
The Blade SR is actually a nice and stable little C.P. heli if you replace the tail motor with the after market belt drive tail conversion as the stock setup has really bad tail wag
The MCPx is a great flying little C.P. heli, as well as the Blade 450. I have all of the above mentioned heli's. I had 2 SR's but sold one and I converted the other to a night flyer. If you want bigger and you can afford it,, I'd recommend a T-Rex 600 FlyBarless
And if you want glow, the Raptor .30 is an excellent machine that you'll be able to grow with.
Here is a vid of my night flyer SR. It was my first time flying at night and it was about a 10-15 m.p.h. wind but it was still very stable despite the horrible tail wag.

Shawn, is the gyro sensitivity of the SR adjustable? It seems as if the tail is hunting a bit there. If possible, you might decrease the gain a little.

Re: rc helicopters
The tail wag has always been horrible on the SR's. No matter how much you set the gyro, you'll never get all of the wag out of it. Those tail motors have overheating issues and when they get hot, they can't keep up with the gyro. Horizon knows about it but will deny it and won't do anything about it. In fact, what you see in the vid is after I did some work and made it a good 75% better!!batjac wrote:sdjjadk wrote:

Re: rc helicopters
My SR never had the tail wag issue... Heard that a lot abou the BCP also.. never had a problem with that one burning out motors either.
Re: rc helicopters
Either Horizon stepped up and fixed the issue or you got lucky! The SR is the only heli I ever had with a tail motor that had a wag problem. I used to have a HeliMax CP and the tail was rock solid.WingingIt74 wrote:My SR never had the tail wag issue...
