Cox Ju87d Stuka
Hi,
I am brand new to this forum and wondering if you can help. While cleaning out my mother's attic I came across a Cox Stuka that is from 1976. I am wondering if anyone has the instruction book or knows where I can get one? I would like to see if I can get this plane up and running. My father was meticulous so I have a feeling it is still in good running condition.
Thanks,

Re: Cox Ju87d Stuka
That was my first plane ever. One of the most beautiful planes Cox made. Also the most unstable and difficult plane to fly they ever made. It lived a very short life... about 5 seconds. If you're an experienced control line flyer, have fun. If not, consider learning on a trainer first. The landing gear on the Stuka will shatter the wings even on just a hard rolling landing.
Welcome to CEF. Sorry I couldn't offer the help you needed, but please come back and let us know how it goes, or if you need assistance building an inexpensive trainer.

Hi,
Thank you very much. I would love a copy of the instructions. I am sure this is still in working order and would like to give it a try.
How do you go about getting the directions to me?

Hi,
Unfortunately, I am not experienced at control line flying. I just remember that my dad and brother were very disappointed with the performance of the plane and were afraid they would ruin it, so it only flew once.

I understand your wanting to fly this plane, but since you"re not experienced, it would be a good idea to get some experience on a trainer plane so you don't destroy your father's plane. As others have said, the Stuka isn't an easy plane to fly, and it'd be a shame to break a plane that's survived so long. You might want to put a Wanted add in the classifieds section here for a trainer plane to get some experience on a plane that doesn't have any family value to you. Just my opinion.

Re: Cox Ju87d Stuka
Let me email Willie to make sure he can copy his instructions. I can then either post them here or send you a hard copy in the mail.
The Stuka is ABSOLUTELY NOT a training plane! Many of the other Cox Plastic RTF's utilize rubber bands to at least attempt to mitigate damage in a crash. The are no such features with the Stuka, and it WILL be damaged. The tiny (scale) elevator requires the pilot to "lead" his control inputs somewhat, making it very easy to "roller-coaster" (as we used to call it) into the ground, or have it roll in on you from overhead.
That said, is IS one of the best flying of the Cox plastic planes once the pilot learns it's quirks. I would really ask that you spend some time and effort in acquiring a training-type plane, and learning to fly before flying the Stuka.
Here is a fairly old video of my Stuka, and I'll hopefully be posting another before too long.

Hey!
Just got a note from Willie that he'll be sending me a copy of the Stuka manual next week. Don't know if it's hardcopy or a scan. If it's the former, I can either scan and send it to you through a post here, or send it snail mail. Whatever will work for you.
Later! Kim

Re: Cox Ju87d Stuka
Here we go. Willie had several different years, so I asked him for a copy of one from 1965. Sorry it took me a while to post them here...been a busy week!
I can also forward them to you as a PDF if you like.
Later ! Kim
