I would say no. I have heard they do funny things in flight, also the fuselage is very fragile. Every beginner is going to crash regardless how well the plane flies.

Are you looking for a .19-35 sizes trainer?

The are plenty of slab-winged 1/2A profile planes that a easy and inexpensive to build that are better suited to the beginner and what learning to fly CL involves.

I think you would be happy with a SIG Skyray .35

Built up wing/profile fuselage. With a .19 on the nose it will be very tame, once you get more comfortable bolt a .35 up front and have some fun.

I like Ron's idea of the Skyray, you could start with a veco .19 or a cheaper engine would be a OS .20FP would fly the whole pattern when you get that far. Another good option is the sig akromaster, it cheap and they build fast. Put a old Fox .15 steel fin (this is the engine on the drawings) or an OS .15 FP. The akromaster is a great flying beginner plane and will do the whole beginner pattern. The good thing about the Skyray is you could start with an OS .20FP then move to the OS .25 FP or LA ( I think they have the same bolt pattern) and they are built mostly of plywood and are tough. The Sig site doesn't let you link to their pages. Here is the Skyray:

The Sig Skyray makes the top of my list for trainers. It can fly very slow or it can be sped way up. Good for all around fun.
